  • People letting fireworks off in the day!!!

They've been going off round here every few hours - why!!! I like fireworks, they can be pretty if they are done well, but it's not like you can see them very well in the day!!! What a waste of money!!! My nervous rabbit kept hiding underneath the hutch everytime she heard the noises (the other one was looking at her like she'd gone mad!), I'd dread to have been someone walking a dog who wasn't fond of them!

    Rant over lol!!!!

it is flipping annoying, thankfully my dog likes them and the cats aren't bothered by them ...... but i still think they should ban them except for displays.

Totally agree with banning them, apart from organized displays. They're going off sporadically here now. Obviously not a display or party, just loonies chucking them around.

It is just symptomatic of a general lack of courtesy and concern for others that pervades society today. I don't want to sound like an old f**t but back in the days of yor when I was a lad, Bonfire night was on the 5th of November. The only time it changed was if the 5th fell on a Sunday. Then, Bonfire night would be Saturday the
4th. It wasn't law or anything it's just how it was. Everyone knew to keep their pets in on the 5th and there would be no need for concern on any other day. Now Bonfire night can be any day a fortnight either side of the 5th.

I'm not talking, between the wars Britain here. I'm in my forties not my dotage.

Your lucky then! MIL has to keep all her blinds shut with the radio on at night for her dogs cause they go nuts at the noise and obviously their barking affects the neighbours too. I don't have dogs myself, getting a cat in a couple of weeks, but I can't understand peoples lack of thought for others - that and the cost of fireworks! I don't live in a wealthy area, we're not too far from the council houses - so how do people have the money spare to effectively just burn it?!!! We certainly don't lol!

yeah its like that here,, we have already had a week of it, always happens at xmas and new year too now, beats me where they get them from all year round to be honest.
don't get me wrong, I love watching them, it's the bangs, it upsets the dogs soo much, I am with the person that posted earlier, why cant they get rid of the 'bang' bit?

bit late for this year, but in the past have had success helping dogs with bangophobia ..... you can download firework sounds or there are cd's you can buy ....... which have firework noises on ...... the secret is, to put the cd on, very low to start with, and don't make any fuss of the dog at all, totally ignore it whatever it does ..... bit by bit every day, turn the volume up slightly, still ignoring the dog, they get used to it slowly, if theres no reaction by people, it just becomes background noise ........ as the dog gets used to it, put the cd on loud now and again, and if you have totally ignored the dogs reaction, they won't even notice when fireworks go off

unfortunately, a lot of the time, comforting the dog cos it's a bit scared reinforces the fear, so they become panic stricken ....... but for this year, all you can really do is play loud music, to help cover the sounds ...... if you stick with it, it really does work, also works with other animals too.

ahhhhhh but when you're barking yourself, it's much easier to understand other people and dogs
