  • A Pennine Kitchen & Garden

Has anyone seen these DVDs? I wondered if they were any good. I loved watching "The Big Dig" on UKTV Gardens, but I've seen it about 4 times now!

Ages ago, one came free with a copy of 'Lets Grow Veg'. It was watchable but not something I'd want to watch again. A bit to much in the kitchen rather than out in the garden for my taste.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

I remember those... I turned off, it was dire. I think if you bought the 12 month set it cost £120.

I agree. I certainly wouldn't pay for them.

Got one free same as Snuffer......truly awful but had potential.....dont know if they have improved.
            What is their history?
To me they seemed like a couple who won the lottery and thought- we will have a small holding and a a crack at making a DVD! Shed loads must have been spent on greenhouse and all the deep beds, propagators etc.....the video editing is/was very very poor. lots of looking at the floor and here is how to prick out one plant, two plants, three plants...ok you can stop now we get the idea, ten plants and on and on .....oh and have a glass of wine with you meal....loadsa dosh!

                Florence Fennel,
Victorian Kitchen garden is nice, if you like the old days and it's ways.
                Soft and easy to watch!
War time Kitchen garden good also.
But they are for easy watching only, though you do get a few tips and ideas along to way.

This probably isn't the right place to ask but does anyone have a copy of The Big Dig on dvd they could lend me?

I can't find it anywhere online or offline.

I don't think the Big Dig has made it on to DVD. The whole series was repeated about 4 times on UK TV Gardens channel, but the channel has disappeared from Sky listings now.

Hi Headfry - I watched both those series on above said gardening channel. Really gentle programmes with one or two tips. Can't understand why they've axed the channel.

I have no idea why they removed the gardening channel - such a shame....I have spent lots of time there in the past.....Now, I cant be bothered to look about the other channels, searching here and there for the odd gardening related program.
You would think that with the huge amount of interest in growing stuff and gardening it would have been good to keep a dedicated channel ?

UKTV axed the Gardening Channel due to 'Money', lack of sponsorship.

The Big Dig has not been done on DVD, I e-mailed the BBC when it was originally on TV to ask about it and they said " There where no plans to put it onto DVD or film another series".

Shame, I liked it as well.

As I have posted before ...this series is quite nice.Allotment TV Series on DVD: Home : About The Allotment on DVD from Wildfire Productions allotments grow your own vegetables veg

Ooh - I was given those many moons ago (when they cost 2x as much) and if you can skip through the formulaic part (opening sequence) they are great! I was going to charge up the portable dvd player and take them down the lottie for the late August gathering to show the other lottie holders - but it all got rained off! There is a wide range of veggie growing ideas and also some art, flowers and cooking! (shuffles off to find where I put them)
Edit - I'm yakking on about The Allotment series not the Pennine K&G here as I've never seen it.

I don't think I can wait for FC to bring them now - I'm going to order them as an unbirthday present to myself tomorrow! Cheers.
