This really should be on the Rant Thread........Is anyone else having trouble buying fuel?.....I called in at 2 petrol staions on my way to work this morning & they had both sold out.........there isn't even a strike yet........

Yet again, totally crazy behaviour by the public. The petrol stations must be loving it! And the taxman of course, as he gets most of the income. #cynicalert

Most of the Lowestoft petrol stations were out of fuel yesterday evening. Daughter's boyfriend has medical problems and regularly needs to visit the hospital at short notice. His Dad therefore needs petrol, but last night couldn't get any.Comment

We filled up yesterday, but we always top up the tank on Thursdays - no queue, but it was before 7.00 a.m and there was a car at every pump. Himself went to the cash machine at the same station this morning and said a lady who was getting petrol yesterday was filling up again today. We haven't tried to fill up yet so we'll see.
I heard one garage owner on the news last night saying that his pumps are empty and he won't get a delivery till Tuesday so he's got nothing to do till then. That's not racking it in exactly. I also heard in the report that 80 army personnel were being trained to deliver fuel to forecourts. 80...and i bet they'll all be in London and surrounding areas.
Fortunately I can walk to work, my lottie and the local high street and town centre if necessary. Cameron obviously doesn't have to fill his own tank.Last edited by donnakebab; 30-03-2012, 07:00 AM.Comment

Quite a few petrol stations were out of diesel by Wednesday night - I passed two with signs up. Yesterday morning there was a huge queue of at least 25 cars (possibly more) at one station I drove past. I have half a tank and that will last me for ages, so don't need to fill up and thankfully if need be I can walk to the shops (2 miles there & back).
Didn't someone on the news earlier in the week tell everyone to "get out there, fill up and empty the petrol stations"? Or have I imagined it?Forbidden Fruits make many Jams.Comment

Both our local stations had massive queues backed right up the road when I went past yesterday. I'm currently running my car nearly dry as we are putting it off road from Saturday night. The other one has half a tank and as school finishes today for 2 weeks we can if needed manage without a car until my son goes back so not a problem for us.
I do find it quite funny seeing all those silly people wasting fuel sat in a queue to get some when there is no chance of a strike for over a week anyway.

Are they now going to park up and not drive for a week? Or are they going to keep on driving as normal, using up all the fuel they've just queued to buy? You've all got off lucky then I think.
Between us, Mr OWG and I drive past 7 petrol stations in our local area, and they are all empty now. They have mostly been empty since yesterday. The couple of stations that had fuel had over 50 cars waiting to fill up, causing major traffic issues.
I have enough fuel to last me until the end of today, then I'm out (I tend to fill up on a Friday usually).
If I can't get any over the weekend, I can't work next week. As I'm on a temporary contract, that means that I won't get paid.Comment

My tank of diesel told me yesterday morning I had 163 miles left in the tank. I did not stop to fill up as there were dangerous queues onto the main roads. And why would you anyway with a quarter of a tank left!
Now I am told that locally all the pumps are out.
Easter hols start today and lots of day trips planned........ Or Not!
I live in a village with one bus a day, which seems to turn up when it feels like it so if I have no car then I really am stuck. I have friends over for lunch tomorrow so I need to go get ingredients so will have a look and see if any are still giving fuel then I guess.
Mr janeyo has a 'thirsty' petrol (and yes he does have a heavy right foot too lol) and he filled up before the panic so he will be ok for about 2 weeks.Comment

I have a quarter of a tank left too. I fill up once a month and have about a week to go. Have no intention of wasting my time queuing with a load of impatient idiots who don't even know whether or not there will be a strike.Comment

Demand for petrol rose 172% on Thursday amid fears of a fuel tanker drivers' strike, while diesel was up 77%, according to independent retailers' group RMI Petrol.
Taxman must be loving it, nice boost of income for the end of the tax year.Comment
