  • P.M.T - Positively Mental Tyrant?

Sorry guys - this is really a subject for the gals, unless you have something (conctructive ) to add.

I have realised that I get tearful at certain types of the month. My sister had suggested it was PMT but I had always dismissed it as it wasnt exactly "pre" being 7-10 days beforehand. Last month I asked on Bookface if it could indeed the the case even though it was quite a few days before and the reaction I got was astounding. "YES" and "thats just how I am" being the main ones with a few "I run and hide" type comments from the poor men

Well I rang and got an advance appointment with the Docs and I am glad to say that it is finaly here - Tuesday morning after the school run but I am not so glad to say that it now also means that my positively mental tyrant is also round the corner since I booked it nearly three weeks ago.

Do you suffer? Did it take you nearly 40 years (well 24) before you clicked? Is there anything special I should say or ask my Doctor? Any tips which work for you? I would much appreciate any comments.

    Tammy

Yes Tammy, I used to get really horrible about a week before my period was due. I never realised until the kids clubbed together their pocket money and sent their dad out to get me a pack of cigarettes (bless them). It takes a while to realise that these moods are tied into a cycle. Don't feel bad about it.

I get other symptoms around a week before, (extremely agonisingly tender in some areas) and I find for one day, around 2-3 days before, I get very irritable/grumpy and sometimes I start to feel depressed, but I feel a whole lot better when I realised it was PMT.
I have not been to the dr, cos I just accept it is what it is...not saying you shouldnt go, Tammy, but I am always cautious about being given painkillers/anit depressents.
Good luck and hope it works out for you xx

My daughter just had "good", "not bad" and "bad" which is quickly put on a calendar and she was amazed at the accuracy of the "bad" on the few days before she was due. Hope your doctor can help you love, but don't automatically expect medication, you may just get helpful counselling.

I don't get any pain or tenderness since switching to the mooncup, but I have now noticed I am a bit mental (depressed/weepy/irritable/tetchy) about 3 days prior

I cry at sad bits in books for a day or two. Cutting out salt stopped the tenderness thing though
And I don't think I'm particularly grumpy at that time, although one of my friends did tell me I must be on the blob every monday morning

Perhaps it would clarify why I am going to the Docs if I tell you I had been thinking about getting the contraceptive injection and some people have said going on the pill may help. so I need to find out if I should do one , other or both. Also I should have said, for those that dont know, I am hypothyroid, which is all linking to hormones, so it may be thats gone under par again.

A couple of my friends were going on about this a few years ago and I said I'd never noticed anything. They didn't believe me that my cycle had no effect on me so I kept a diary for a few months and could find no correlation what so ever. It seems that sometimes I'm just down but that can be any point in the month and likewise good moods can occur at any time. The main thing that seemed to effect me was the weather

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

You're not alone Alison, my Husband always said he could never tell where in my cycle I was, as I didn't have mood swings. I used to notice a craving for sweet sugary things the week before I was due. If I gave in to the craving I levelled out - maybe it was just in my head though.

Personally, I can recommend 'having it all out' as I did eight months ago - it definitely has it's advantages!

Guess I am one lucky chappie 40 years wed in June and SWMBO never suffered.

My best friends wife however was a very different story that poor lady not moody or nasty but awful pain, we even had to time our joint holidays about her cycle.

I get more anxious about things (daft things) around ovulation and just before the period. Ratty as anything two days before as well.

If I keep track of when it's due though I can usually consciously affect it and minimise symptoms I find - positive thinking, waiting before I speak/snap, ignoring any daft worries etc. I also find that if I actually do get teary and shed tears for a few mins it lessens any symptoms as well if they're really bad. Gotta love woman thangs.

Oh, and I forgot the tendancy towards migraines. Woo!
