My 85 year old ma-in-law had hers done under local last year. She said it was fascinating! You get over it much quicker than a general.

I had an op with a local, i could hear all the cutting noises it was the wierdest thing ever, it was removing a non malignant cyst off my head. I did recover quickly though and got to see what they had taken out too!
If you don't think you could stand that then you are right to go for a GA then you are right to ask for one as you don't need the stress.
      Hope all goes well.xx

Good Luck, Jackie. Though the six weeks off sounds attractive I'm not sure I'd want surgery in order to get it!

Oh good news Jackie, I hope it all goes well for you.

A friend of mine had both hers done, and both under local anaesthetic while she sat and watched (nutter !). With the first one, her left hand (she is right-handed), it took a good six months before she was back to normal - she was told four months. The second took a little over four, but it was her dominant hand.

She had put-off having them done for years, now regrets it.
