  • Open gardens ?

We have this thing in our village ( was today), called open gardens, where people you have never met before wander round your garden and vote for the best, its suppose to be a tradition of the village, but i cant bring myself to open my garden, they advertise this event everywhere, call me suspicious, but if i was a serious burglar, not some druggie looking for a dvd player to pinch and sell for their next quick fix, i would wander around a village like mine, we are a normal working family with a nice house, but there is some serious money houses in my village, flash houses, swimming pools etc, maybe ive been doing my job to long and its made me an old stick in the mud ?

Open Gardens are terrific. NGS - GardenFinder

I think only gardeners have heard of them; gardeners nick cuttings, not dvd players. And if you've any sense at all, you keep your house locked while your garden is "open".

Oh yes, ours was a few weekends ago when it rained heavily - and the gardens weren't in their full summer bloom.

We go to loads of the NGS scheme gardens; often pick up unusual plants sold by the house owners whilst we are there.

I am looking forward to nosing around a number of gardens in a nearby town this afternoon. It's a good way to see what other people are growing, meeting other gardeners and good for a bit of excercise. From past experience the gardeners have little concern about burglars casing their properties and open their gardens year after year.

I'm holding an open garden today ... FiL will come round, pronounce this or that "a weed", such-and-such is in the wrong place, and then tell me how to grow things properly.

I started to weed and tidy this morning, and then thought S0d it
