  • Oops, the carpenter's cut too much off a panel and OH gonna be MAD

Our carpenter who is finishing off the fiddly bits of the new kitchen, has cut 10cm off the decor panel by mistake.

He has glued it back on. I can however still see the join obviously.

OH gonna do his nut as the decor panel cost £200.

And he is family, so if OH throws a wobbly it won't be pleasant for any of us.

    Ho-hum...

My hubby would actually shoot the fitter for this - relation or not! We had a kitchen fitted last year and the stress from hubby getting home from work and inspecting the kitchen then writing me a list to 'discuss' with the fitter the next day...
      Good luck!

my Hubber would go mental too, If you are paying your relative to do the work he should offer to replace the panel. I know i'd feel terrible if i'd done it and buy a new one.

That's just sloppy work, I too would be angry. Family or not, they should do the job right.

Surely if he is a 'proper' carpenter (family or not) he will have insurance to cover the purchase a new piece?? If he isn't and you are getting a good deal then I suppose that would be the risk you take (to quote 'you pays yer money, you takes yer choice'). Perhaps you should go halves with him?

He didn't follow the good old saying then, measure twice cut once.

I am sorry to here this really, as it makes for a difficult situation all round.
              God bless all of us.

We are paying him the going rate, not mates rates so work should be up to scratch.
Will update when I know the outcome of their conversation in the morning - hopefully I can be doing things with the children then.....

Deffinately - otherwise you will keep looking at it and it will annoy you that your lovely shiney new kitchen has an imperfection

                    Bum Janeyo
Sometimes it's best just to say straight out - "Well, that looks a mess, have you ordered a new one yet?". Take the bull by the horns and all that. Hope it gets sorted without any fall-outs in the morning (there should be a hopeful smiley here)

When our kitchen was fitted a few years ago my OH was meant to be helping by putting the units together to keep the price down, he had the back door moved and cut out the opening, when he wanted to go outside he had to jump down a few feet one day he landed awkwadly and broke his heel and ended up in hospital for a week, that meant the fitter had to employ his mate to help instead, the work was great, the laminate floor matched the units. The plumber didnt do his job properly and we had a flood, floor ruined we claimed on the insurance but they wouldnt let us get the flooring from the same company so it no longer matched, then the dishwasher leaked while we were away so claimed again this time we got good lino the fitter's were sent by the insurace company they said it was ok when we complained but its not cut straight and I hate it.
So get it put right now because you will always see it even if no one else notices.
