  • Ooops! MINI accident!

Ok, I'm alright, a bit shaken and feel completely wiped out, but no physical injuries that have as yet manifested!

Was coming home from work at 545pm, travelling up the Macclesfield to Alderley Edge road, came round a bend at about 35mph, the road was wet and greasy/muddy and the back end broke away and spun the car! I did 720, banging the rear passenger side wheel into the opposite kerb on the first revolution, then ending up off the road in the verge pointing back the way I came! Happened in a flash, no damage to the bodywork at all, nor to the engine, but one rear wheel is bent, one wheel bearing seems gone, looks like a suspension arm / bar / thingy is bent and the ABS light is on! A passing motorist stopped and stayed with me for 1/2 hour until she would start, then we moved her up the road to a layby until Mr D arrived to escort me home!

Looked as tho I'd be able to drive home, but after about 3 miles of feeling really odd, we stopped for petrol (Lee's car) and he stopped me and told me to ring MINI to come and collect her, so she's gone off to the bodyshop, fortunately we're fully comp insured, so should be ok!

I feel like a complete idiot, broken my fave thing and its gonna cause hassle to do without the car until she's repaired (hopefully it will be repairable!), but as Lee says, the main thing is I'm alright, just wish I'd slowed down more than I had, cos then I'd still have MINI parked on the drive!
    Blessings

Mrs D, you are infinitely more important than the car! So glad you're ok. Probably got a bit of shock going on, make sure you eat plenty of carbs to keep your blood sugar up, and a nice hot bath should help with any bruising etc.
        Take care of yourself (((hugs)))

At that time of day I'm surprised you didn't take out a few oncoming cars with you! A busy, bendy road.
It's one of the routes my son drove when learning to drive...quite hairy at times!
Glad to hear you're fine though...what a horrible thing to happen.
Hope you feel OK in the morning and you get your lovely car back soon ( I've seen it folks...and it's a lovely car!)
          Take care....

Oh heck! I know that road - parents lived in Macclesfield for about 30 years! Mind you do as Lee says - treat yourself for shock. Take care chuck.

Glad to hear you're ok lady - and that someone stopped to wait with you (there seems to be fewer and fewer of us that do). Mini's are one of the best handling cars out there (especially in Cooper S form like yours).

The car can be mended quite easily I'm sure - you are a different story.

Look after yourself, and take it easy.

I expect today you will feel worse so try and rest if you can. I had a head on collision many years ago with a cattle lorry on its way to market, it was carrying five cows and some pigs. I was on narrow country lanes on my way to work and was taking it easy, I saw the lorry and braked but my brakes locked and I skidded into him, it happened in slow motion, he was driving too fast for the conditions of a wet road, the driver was in shock for a few minutes and I jumped out eventually, ( i think he thought my legs were trapped ) the police came as we were blocking the road and made me sit in the car till the ambulance arrived but that made me feel sick as the animals were making the car and lorry rock, the driver had to get in with them to calm them down.
Altough I didnt have any injuries the next day I hurt all over as I had whiplash and this lasted for a few days.
So as I said take it easy today and hope you feel better soon. My car was a right off.

Mrs Dobby, sorry to hear of your accident, but I'm very relieved that you are ok.
Be gentle on yourself for the next week or so, shock is a funny old thing and affects in many ways. They are harvesting round our way and the roads are so bad. Over the past week they have put a layer of mud on road...it's been dry so the mud got squished flat and polished, it rained night before last....road was lethal, how no one end up in ditch I do not know. They have had skidding car sing out, but for weeks now so I am sure most ignore it by now (crying wolf)
                    Take care mrs D

Thanks for the support guys, I was very down last night, feel such a fool!

Someone must have been watching out for me, nothing else coming, no impact and walked away from it, not even a scratch on the bodywork, just suspension, wheel, tyre, ABS and airbag to get fixed!

There must have been mud or grease on the road, as I travel that road carefully every day, and have never had it happen like that before, in fact, I havent had a car accident in over 22 years!

I do feel as tho I'm not all there, very woolly and body feels achey and sore, no whiplash, but not completely with it, ah well, these things happen, the insurance should take care of it and I'm ok, confidence a bit bashed and ego dented, but I'll pull through!

I've spoken to the insurance and bodyshop, they are going to get back to me with a courtesy car and looks like its gonna be sorted, so feeling a bit more with it, rang my area manager today (had him and the regional manager for a visit yesterday, which went well) and told him I wouldnt be at the managers meeting today, he was ok about it, and fortunately I've 3 days off Friday, sat and sun, so going to rest up and have a hot bath to ease the tension in a min! Then I think its off to the police station to produce the docs, then pick up the car, then up to Alderley Edge for a walk, a bit of photography and to spend a bit of quiet time out in nature, perhaps a little thankyou to whoever was looking out for me!

Anyhows, thanks again for the support and messages, it is appreciated!

BTW - she's NOT a metal box, she's a MINI, a definite part of the family, they have feeling too you know! lol!

Just as an after thought....maybe to late now, but did police check the road for oil spill etc, could be others heading for the same mishap as you have had.
