  • One more scam

I received a phone call this morning from someone saying they were from talktalk, and informed me that they would be shutting my internet down for two day as their was someone using my router but if I need access to the internet I could switch on my computer and they would set up a temporary connection, needlessly to say I didn't do this, I would hate these folk to find out I have no money
I wonder if they would take putty on me and put some money in a bank for me
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Bet they had an Indian accent. My alleged callers from Talktalk always sound subcontinental.

We get ones who say they are from BT all the time. My stance is to never automatically believe people are who they say they are on the phone - unless it's family! If in doubt, put phone down and find the number to call your internet service provider or bank etc and double check whether legit or not.

Being asked to log on to a computer or give out any personal info should always send alarm bells ringing.

For them to look at your money you'd need to set a webcam up under the matress

Over the last two days Himself has had about 10 of these calls, mostly pretending to be V*rgin Media. Being the technophobe that he is, he didn't even know what a router is - but he's reported them anyway

Tell him a router can be another name for someone who wants to root out all your personal details. I've warned my OH (who doesn't even know how to switch my PC on) to hand the phone over to me. I've got one of those Acme whistles that won't half hurt their ears!!
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Oh that's nasty anyway who told you where I keep my money, or is it because I need a set of steps to get into bed that gave it away, but how did you know that

I recently got an email ( did not say who to just had a list of numbers) that had not been delivered with an attached link to correct the problem - fine but I had not sent an email for a few weeks and in the past any undelivered mail has instantly bounced back..

Easy option is tell them you will switch off your router, wait 5 minutes then power it back up and as you will have a new IP address whoever it was would not be able to specifically connect to yours again.

If they say it is the connection to your router then that is their equipment at the exchange that is compromised and they need to contact Openreach. Not your problem.

By then they should realise that maybe you know a bit more then they like.

Different type of scam. My friends IPhone has a dodgy battery. Turns out it was a common fault on this particular version. Apple would fix it for free if you claim before January 2016. She didn't know about this and is too late.

My son offered to change the battery if we sourced it. After all the hooha about certified "genuine" batteries not being genuine and actually dangerous, i decided to buy a broken phone and use it for spares including the battery. After looking for a while I found one with several things wrong with it including a broken screen. So I bought it. I got a broken screen. Nowt else. Just the screen. An obvious scam as no one would buy just a broken screen.
