Open office; I use it all the time. You can save it in microsoft if anyone only using microsoft needs to read it. And you can export to pdf documents.

micosoft office and micosoft works we tryed putting in the noumber on the back for the key but it said no ?? so we dont know what to do

It's free.

Hi all, while I agree that OpenOffice could be the way to go it is a little resource intensive and may struggle slightly on a note/net-book (although if it will handle MS office then Open Office will be no problem). I have used both abiword (free open source word processor that handles word documents) and gnumeric (free open source spreadsheet program that can handle Excel files) and had great success with both on lower spec machines. Both are free to install and use and use very little system resources.

Also, if you are simple looking for something to write/plan crops then I have used goggle documents, free to use and accessible from anywhere you have in Internet connection (I have made changes to my plan from my plot using my phone). I had Open Office for a little while, and it's great for most things. It's pants for opening my OU assignments with tutor comments showing though, it won't show them whatever you try (and lots of people have tried!). I ended up having to pay for the student version of MS Office!

Oh, and I'm on a Netbook, and it happily runs either program

I often read the Techie questions threads, figuring that I can usually learn sommat. Well, again you lot have taught me sommat very useful!

After reading this thread I downloaded Open Office, fully expecting to be disappointed, but nope - it's fab. I feel totally at home with it already, and have transferred most of the spreadsheets and old word docs that I use the most, to it already.
