  • Noisy eaters/drinkers

    God they annoy me!

    Ok, here's my story...

Due to some redundancies and subsequent move arounds I am now in an office with very few people in it. In the process I've bagged myself a window seat (I was previously in a windowless corner with no natural light). As a result I have moved away from one dude who, whilst a really nice dude who I get along with, is a really noisy eater and drinker. When eating smacks his lips after he's finished everymouthfull - not just once, but loads of times. After he's finished eating he does this for 2-3 minutes afterwards - you know when people "click" their tongue on the roof of their mouth - a kind of yapping.

If that wasn't bad enough, he's a slurper when he drinks his tea - rather than let it cool for a bit he slurps really hot tea.

My problem is, that now I'm just far enough away not to hear him - however, he is in the process of moving next to me again - to bag the other remaining window seat.

    Earplugs anyone?

    Why do people eat/drink noisily?

    remove the other seat!
throw it out the window NOW!
    burn it!
    chop it to bits NOW!
...then get a flame thrower to ensure it has gone

Why they do it I have no idea, perhaps a question of upbringing???
However, take it from me, you havent suffered like I have. When I was working in Kabul I had to accompany my boss once a month to a godforsaken filthy hole of a workers camp for the monthly meeting.
This wasnt an Afghan company, but a foreign one, that I shant name for fear of offending anyone of that nationality on here.
We were always invited to stay for lunch, and after the first one, I simply couldnt stay again.
Whilst I agree we are all culturally different, and this is what makes this world such a wonderful place, but......
To a man, these 15 people were the most disgusting things I have ever seen round a dinner table. Just vile. The noises and general disregard of manners (as I would deem them to be) were awful.
I'm not a prude in any way, have travelled the world and eaten many things, including fresh monkey brain, having seen poor beast meet its maker, but I have never seen eating like that. Even now, 5 years on, I feel ill thinking about it.
A bit of lipsmacking and slurping around the table would have been blessed relief.

One of my pet pevs too wayne along with not lifting feet when walking, hate that scuff scuff noise, there's no need for either both are born from poor teaching when young. It also amazes me these days how many youngester are unable to use a knife and fork at the table!!
I'm sorry but I reckon I would end up getting annoyed at said fellow and telling to eat with his mouth shut!!

Had to laugh, sorry. There was a Japanese guy in my last Institute who drank tea as you say, with noisy slurps and smacking of lips. No-one else noticed it until I pointed it out, which made things rather awkward as we'd all try not to laugh when the guy was around slurping like a good 'un.

My main colleague (I'm her supervisor) scuffs her feet as she walks. She's got worn bits on the toes of her shoes, which she only bought in June!

If it was me, Wayne, I'd make even louder noises, with fake BURRRRRPPSS and 'SMACK SMACKING' of lips. When he turns around in surprise, say, 'Oh I'm sorry, am I disturbing you with my piggy eating habits???'

Or maybe not, if you value him as a friendly 'dude'!

You mean someone really WANTS to sit in that place that years ago someone suffered a hideous end & ever since any that have dared take up that place have endured years of painful suffering caused by the ghost of yester-year!!??
.....or maybe that's a tad far-fetched,p'raps earplugs would be your best bet!

Yuk, makes me cringe imagining it. My OH has headphones with music so he can't hear his colleagues. he is SO glad when he can work at home. He has an 'apple muncher' nearby him who eats 4 apples a day and a 'crisp cruncher' who makes one bag of crisps last an hour - drives him nuts!

I'll have a shufty when I get home - oddly enough we're not supposed to have sound on our computers.

I do have BBC6 Music on lunchtimes though when nobody's around....

It's usually upbringing. I'll bet his parents eat like that.
What drives me nutty is kids with their hands in their pockets - at school. Now I'm retired it doesn't bug me any more but it really wound me up. I always made them take their hands out and not slouch because it was rude.

ok its a bit gross but maybe you could sit next to them, 'fart then burp' and just casually walk away like it never happened, the theory being that they will never go near you again

This drives me completely insane. I can put up with it from toddlers but after that they should be taught to eat and drink properly.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
