  • No more free parking!

I am a blood donor whenever I can do so, and went to give this morning. Because of the heat decided to take as little as possible with me so no handbag (which is generally welded to my shoulder), just the letter, phone and car keys. Drove into town and couldn't find anywhere to park without paying and only had 60p in my glovebox, so ended up comng home. There were people parked illegally all over the place who were probably at the car boot sale, but if I had done that I would be the one with a parking fine! I'd forgotten they'd cancelled the free parking on Sundays so was partly my fault, but should I expect to pay to park my car when I have already used my petrol (a not inexpensive commodity these days) and given of my free time to help others?

Even if it doesn't change anything, I would write a letter to whomever changed the parking rules to point it all out. Will help you to vent your spleen and they have your feelings on file.

I think you should also write to the blood donor organisation as they would have some sway with local authorities all over the country to allow parking dispensations for the vital service of donation.

That's awful! I can't believe you get charged on a SUNDAY! I choose the time to give blood according to parking, as do others, which means that the poor nurses have a quiet daytime, followed by the evening rush, as parking becomes free at 18:00. Stupid, isn't it?

I donate at a number of venues as so try another venue at their web site The National Blood Service - do something amazing give Blood

I am just two units short of my next award.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to write to the local council and National Blood Service. Not that it will make any difference, but I'll feel better for it.

Hunt around for the most local venue. After visting a session at the other end of town (2 miles maybe) for a few years I discovered they have a session only three streets away. Its not as often or as late but I can walk which is much better and avoids the parking issue.
