  • New York Times Story

Hi there, as you all know I am very interested in growing my own food and especially cooking and eating it ! However I get a bit down in the winter when I can't seem to produce much and have to revert to shop bought vegetables or sometimes non at all.
I decided to keep a food diary so I could keep a track of the food I ate and also highlight the differences between summer and winter so I recently started to photograph my main meal everyday and write a little bit about it on a Blog. I didn't think much of it, just a record for myself and anyone who might find it interesting.
However, a couple of days ago I got an email from a journalist who wants to write a story about people who photograph their food and its going in the New York Times I couldn't believe it an thought it must be a hoax. In due course I was telephoned and interviewed, hopefully there will be something in print. I don't know if it will be good or bad or maybe just a bit of poking fun.
What a turn up eh ?

wow James, thats really cool!. it's amazing that something you write....generally just for you gets spotted by someone somewhere and it ends up in print.
this happened to me 18mths ago.....i started a blog about my journey to put down roots somewhere, and i used the word 'happy' in a sentence, and that was found by 2 writers wanting to do a book on human emotion, based on words searched for in blogs. so i now have my photo and that sentence in a book that was published last dec!.

Jayjay - make sure you post it on the Vine when it is published! Well done indeed. I think the hardest part is to find your 'voice' when writing - and the next hardest is to keep at it!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Good for you! I only occasionally post pics of my dinner - maybe when it includes something really strange, like the dark brownish-purple mushy peas I made from dried Lancashire Lad peas! Let us know when it's published - I know someone nearly famous!

Thanks everyone, I hope the story gets published. The reporter asked some very odd questions so I don't know what angle they will take, I hope they don't RIB me too much !. I have written a few articles for a couple of self sufficiency magazines and also a couple of bits on amateur radio projects that have been published and don't seem to get any further than that with my own work.
Then I just take a photograph and write a couple of lines about my tea and a reporter from the NEW YORK TIMES wants to write about it !
Probably thinking " Crazy Englishman "
          I still can't quite believe it !
