  • New Year Resolutions.

    OK, I'm sure I started this last year, but hey-ho I'm nosey. I'm also useless at keeping my resolutions, so don't usually bother making any. However, this year's different, so I'll start;

I AM going to lose weight and get fitter!

You read it here folks - feel free to nag me when my resistance to food is low (waking hours, usually ), and when I look like having too much vino collapso!

I am planning to go back to my favourite carb-free Atkins diet, as it's the easiest for me, and I don't get cravings, unlike other diets. The down-side is NO wine, NO buttery bread to soak up my lovely fresh egg yolks, NO lightly toasted Brioche rolls, NO Yorkie Puds or Roastie Tatties

B*gger, I'm talking myself out of it already

    What are your resolutions?

I am going to lose weight and keep it off - off to Slimming World.

To go to the gym at least 3 times a week!

To stand up for myself when others are putting on me.

Not to grow any veg that I don't like just because my father has given it us....

Don't really do resolutions at New Year as I think they put too much pressure on me and it's not the way I like to work but getting fitter and healthier is always a good aim for most of us. However have always felt that the Atkins diet is a very unhealthy way of losing weight and whilst the things you list are probably good things to cut down on in any diet, some of the other things you have to avoid for Atkins mean it's not really a balanced diet - and your breath smells

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

A doctor once recommended the atkins diet to me... but I couldn't do it cos being a veggie it would be nigh on impossible!

Seriously! (as in the doctor recommending bit not the veggie thing) - am very surprised

Well, Glutton4 - I'm going to sort out the weight thing next year too (don't you like how positive that sounds! - like Janeyo I'm not big on meat but I have a friend who thrives on the Atkins and looks great! (I don't care what her breath smells like as I'm not going to be snogging her!)
Losing weight is always a bit problematic, especially on the long haul, you just gotta find what works for you and take it slowly. My latest wheeze is to wear a pedometer too - saved a lot in petrol this Christmas!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Well Jeanie that's just what I was thinking, if I'm not going to snog someone who cares if there breath doesn't smell of mouth wash, I'd just be glad they took the initiative to try and lose weight.....You go for it Glutton4, if you need any encouragement Jeanie and me will kick your backside for you.....then run away

Why run? - I'm too fat to catch ya!

I know a lot of people knock Atkins, but most of them haven't taken the trouble to read up on it - it is a very interesting read. But in the end, if it suits me I'm happy to do it. I've done it before and I know that it works for me. I can't do calorie-counting, Weight Watchers or Slimming World - they just don't suit me or the way I live, but I've nothing against them.

Anyway, I didn't start this as a pro/con diet thread, but a New Year's Resolution thread.

Thanks to to Ginger and Jeanie though, I DO need the kick!

Good for you G4, I really could do with losing weight, the older I get, the harder it seems to be to lose it!! My problem is I have no will power.
