  • New one pound coin

I've just seen a picture of the new one pound coin, and guess what? It's a threepenny bit.......

It's probably worth about the same now, too.....
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

What memories that thre'p'ny bit brings back. When I was very young I would spend hours polishing them with the Brasso!

Polishing your Thruppnies with Brasso must have needed a lot of determination. *wink(

I thought thrupenny bits were silver
I had one stuck in my shoe when I got married - no idea why but the pain of walking on it could account for the grimaces in the photos

You sure it wasn't a sixpence VC, that's the tradition.

In Great Britain, the well-known tradition of the bride wearing ‘something old, something new,’ originally stems from the rhyme, ‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe.’ A silver sixpence in the bride’s shoe is a traditional good luck wedding gesture and customarily, it is the father of the bride who places the sixpence as a symbol of him wishing her prosperity, love and happiness in her marriage.

You are correct, NS - it was a 1945 silver sixpence. I have it here now and some 42 year old rosebuds! Its time for some memento decluttering
