  • Never again.....until next time!

    Me and my big mouth.

In 2005, I ran what I was determined was going to be my one and only marathon, in London. Actually it was great, or at any rate, the last two miles were. Coming out onto the Embankment with everyone screaming my name (well, it was printed on my t-shirt so I suppose that gave them some clues) I felt as if I was winning it. Running past Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, totally exhausted, the atmosphere was amazing, to the point where I saw the finish line and completely lost it, burst into floods of tears, totally overcome with it all. A once in a lifetime experience, and I was determined it was going to be just that. Been there, seen it, done it, got the t-shirt - literally - and back to running being a pleasure rather than being dictated to by a training schedule pinned up in the kitchen.

Last year I went down there to support, and handing my friends jelly babies and encouragement at the 17 mile mark, all I wanted to do was hop over the railings and join them.

Anyway, to stop rambling, a last minute offer of a charity place came up a couple of days ago and.....

    I'm in!

My little brain conveniently edited out the weeks and weeks of training runs freezing my bits off in the snow, but somehow this morning, with 16 miles facing me and a thermometer telling me its -2 out there reality's hitting me with a cricket bat! And there's the little matter of trying to raise £1300 for the Outward Bound trust

Wish me luck! I'm going out, I may be some time...........

Think I may need to go rest with Nicos!!!
I used to always watch the Marathon & every year vow that I'd be there the following year......never did quite find the motivation!!!.....but then I never Knew there'd be people out there feeding me jelly babies....might have made all the difference!
Good Luck with it & possibly even more luck for the next 16 miles in the cold!!!

        Addictive isnt it?
I still have urges where I want to train for the Paris one, as London was so awesome. However I am now old and fat, lazy and to be honest far more sensible.
Go for it though, you just know how much it will hurt if you dont get those miles in the bank beforehand

Cripes. I take my hat off to ANYONE who does a marathon. One of my friends did the New York one a few years back and another did London 2 years ago [and came in before Gordon Ramsey - which made her year]...I can only just muster up the effort to make a cuppa some days so I'm seriously impressed.

Running's bad for you, a heart only has a limited number of heartbeats ergo faster heart, shorter life.............

Good luck with it. I have heard it is very adictive, people do them year upon year.
I dont run, gravity is not on my side. If necessary I wait for the next bus.

I always look at people jogging and see their faces and have to say I have never seen one looking happy.

i promised son when he was 16 that we would run next the years marathon (having checked beforehand that he had to be 18 to run shame )

i kinda wish i'd done it now, cos it doesn't look like i'll ever manage it now, being as how most of my bits don't work lol

well i wish you the very best of luck, and can i just say .... you are a little barmy
