We moved into our house in Jan so we are the new kids on the block, and we are the Nice neighbours. I give the people both side and opposite a couple of our fresh eggs every week.

This meant none of them objected to our extension plans! lol

They are all nice people and I even went to one of them and had a good nosey rouns his veg plot and greenhouse to give me ideas. They even gave us some money when we had the massive leilandi reduced from 40 feet to 10 as it let so much more light into his veg plot! The other side chap is retired and cuts our side of the conifers (his wife calls the cone-ifers which makes us chuckle). I am hoping one of the nice people will look after aforementioed chooks and water my beds when we go away.... keep em sweet that's what I say

My only niggle is one side has 2 jack russels who do Nothing But Yap when outside.

I think I must have the lovliest neighbours ever. We've been here 19 years now - I was expecting my eldest when we moved in. Since then I think that theres only been a handful of houses come up for sale on our close, not because we have great big posh houses (we don't), or because we live in a real posh area (we don't), but because everyone on our close gets on. When someone goes on holiday, theres always someone to water their plants and cut their grass. When it snows, theres always someone (us) with a 4x4 to do a "bread & milk run" to the supermarket. In the summer, when theres a bbq going on, it goes without saying that most of the kids on the close will turn up, the kids all get on well together - they vary from 2yrs up to 16yrs (the ones older than that don't stay on the close any more) but when they play footie, non of em are left out, even the younger ones are included. When we wanted to build an extension to the side, the way our drive was would have meant the extension wouldn't have been straight, so our neighbour gave us a 2 foot of his drive so we could square it off properly. In return, as our drive was wider than his at the top end, we took down the fence in between to make it easier for him to get in and out of his car and we had it all tarmacced to make it look nice. I think its all about about a bit of give and take, and as long as you give more than you take, then everyone will be happy. Sorry, I'm waffling now, but we've looked to move a few times as I'd like a bigger garden, but when it came down to it, I don't think I'd ever find better neighbours than what I've got now.

We did have lovely neighbours - the kind that have a chat but don't intrude, they gave us veg from their garden (this was in our pre-allotment days) and were generally lovely.

          Then they moved.

Now we have pain in the wotsits neighbours - all loud music, door slamming and loud conversations in the garden every evening in summer - mostly on subjects unsuitable for our youngsters ears

Like Pootle's previous neighbours, ours will all have a chat or do something if needed, but wouldn't intrude either normally. We have had a few parties on the road - dinner parties, drinks and nibbles in the daytime etc. And we have a big green out the front that all the kids from the whole estate and other estates like to play on - the toddler likes to get in the thick of it, even if it is the older teenagers - "want to play ball with the BOYS!!" (heaven help me when she hits her own teenage years...).

In our previous house, we barely knew either side to say hello, and no one else. It was a dormitory estatee, which emptied out by 8am (we were gone at 6.30 ourselves) and only started to trickle back about 6pm, but the main flow back as at 8.10pm - 10 mins after the shift change in the local computer plant.

We only moved into the village 3 years ago - so we're still Mr & Mrs Come-Lately's to a certain extent. We are at the end of a close so we only have one immediate neighbour, an old fella who's pleasant enough, but keeps himself to himself really. The neighbours one door up from him can be a bit testing (8-12 cars/vans/winnebago parked all over the place, shouting and hollering at each other on most Sunday mornings), but they always take in deliveries for us as they're there pretty much all day. We get on really well with the couple that moved in opposite us about a year ago now, we know a few other people dotted about the village, but that's about it. Plenty of people we say hello to as we walk about the village on a nice weekend.

I moved to my village 3yrs ago this summer, it was a gamble, found the job and house on the Internet and thought go for it! I've since left the job but I love my little house, garden and village even though it's in the middle of nowhere.

I really do have the best neighbours on both sides and 2 houses down each way too. We all love gardening and can spend more time chatting over fences than doing the garden. We decided that one neighbour should put a gate in his back fence so he didn't have to keep walking all the way around when he was looking after my dogs, he's a star and even mowed my lawn for me when I was poorly. In return I help him out with stuff and provide rhubarb crumbles!!

It was a gamble to move here alone, but my neighbours have really made it a good move!

Same here Headfry. My neighbour is so lovely that he gave up one of his 2 lotties on the small site in the village because he knew I was on the waiting list - I've got half his old one. Mind you, he keeps threatening to keep an eye on me and make sure I look after it properly!

our neighbours are SCUM. On the left we have lazy bones who cultivates tall weeds and rusty bicycles and lets her teenagers run riot with loud music - she has a vile bichon frise which needs training - it barks all day and she does not clean up after it. our other neighbour is going deaf but so selfish he refuses to wear headphones to listen to his telly - he keeps my lovely neighbours severely disabled son on the other side of his house awake until 3 in the morning,
Not all neighbours are nice and I wish there was more that could be done about them. (perhaps a ghetto where they could all annoy each other) We are good neighbours- and if our labrador barks she is told no immediately - what is wrong with some people?

I have lived here for 20 years and at first got on with all my neighbours only 6 houses in this road but lots around us. Over the years 3 houses have changed hands more than once and we got on with the newbies. We have fallen out with next door cos they are very loud they shout not talk to each other slam car doors late at night early mornings park where they shouldnt its permit parking and they constantly abuse this, at the mo the daughter parks every day and goes to work using same permit. Now they have a yappie dog. 2 flats next door downstairs lady ok never see chap upstairs. next to that couple with dog that barks at fresh air all day sometimes. Others are ok tho one has small vicious dog that we have complained to authorities about my daughter is not allowed in the house to play cos of dog, he is in the police and she is a nurse got 2 kids.
As i get on with most people i find it very uncomfortable.

I used to live next door (semi bungalow) to a very strange couple. They told me on first meeting them they were naturists. I was worried til I realised they meant naturalists.
He didn't work because of some makey-uppy illness and they didn't like it as we had lots of home-improvements done whereas they had lived in a s***hole for 25 years.

The final straw came when he came round to tell me he could hear our loo flushing and could I do it quieter!?! And when I caught him spying on me through a knothole in the fence while I was sunbathing in the garden. I wasn't sorry to move on.....
