  • Need some birthday Prayers help

    Hi all,

computer finally loading the page in under a week, so can now come back!!

Can anyone point me in the direction of birthday prayers. What would have been Brad's 21st birthday is coming up soon (my nephew who passed away 18mths ago for those of you who don't know me) and my sister wants to mark it with a short, simple prayer service in her local church. We prefer to mark his birthday rather than the anniversary of his passing.

We are searching all over and can only find poems or birthday prayers/blessings for those still with us and that is not what she wants really. Was hoping that someone with a bit more knowledge, or a prayer book or two may be able to give a bit of inspiration.

    Thanks in advance
    Kirsty xx

You might find some use in the Church of England's official funeral materials here
          Funeral

The bits most likely to be of use are in the sections headed 'Memorial Service' and 'Prayers for Use with the Dying and at Funeral and Memorial Services'. (A 'collect' is a prayer for a particular day or occasion). I'm a reader (a CofE lay minister) and take quite a lot of funerals, and the services for that aren't too bad, but I do find some of the other backup material a bit ropey, so they might not suit.
          Today's mistake is tomorrow's compost...

Hi Kirsty, I found this on the internet a while ago for a friend. I hope it helps.

No cake or candles here today
Or presents for you to open
Just love from friends who want to say
Happy Birthday, and that we're hoping
Somehow you can see and know
That we have not forgotten you
That we still remember, even though
            You've departed from our view
And if you see us here below
            And wonder why we care
It's just because we want to show
That a part of you is still here
You live within each memory's heart
And so you remain, though we're apart

            Best wishes,
            Essjay
