  • Nearly Hallowe'en....

....my thoughts are turning towards this year's pumpkins.

I love this idea found on FB by DD

But I'm not sure the neighbourhood children would appreciate my veering from my usual ghoulishness.....

That looks delightful Jules, but I bet your usual display is more appealing to the children. I've managed to grow 3 big ones this year, so I may even keep one for myself this time!

I'd love to grow some, but the chooks have taken over and I lack the space now. I do have some Lumina pumpkin seeds - they're white on the outside like the ones in the picture - if anyone wants them.

As usual, all my squashes got munched before they grew!
However I saw a great pic on FB of these and thought they would do!

I've got 3 snowball pumpkins, 2 big green ones??, 2 butternuts, and a large marrow. I haven't decided yet what we'll make, maybe a three headed monster, with the snowballs, or the elephant man with the marrow. I'll have to think about it.

We never get any trick or treaters, which is a shame, I always make green welshcakes, or bogeycakes as I call them. Maybe this year will be better.

My business partner last year strapped himself to a tree in the garden with a climbing harness, dressed up as lord voldermort, and hung himself by a noose. Scared the bejesus out of his and the neighbours kids!!!

I'll trick or treat you for a bogeycake, Mikey - or for two bogeycakes and an elephant man - I'll stay away

We've got some Connecticut Field pumpkins which we've grown for lantern making (we'll only do one, and give the others to whoever wants them). Last year, me and the children made 'lanterns' out of satsumas with wire handles, and just drew on the faces with black Sharpies. They looked quite good piled in a bowl with a big candle in the middle!

I might this year just dress the dog in a devil cape and horns, tape a pitchfork to her and sit her by the garden gate - might put the guisers off - she looks 1000 times scarier than she actually is - more (teddy) bear than scare.
