  • my poor knee

Went to kew gardens today on school art trip - my knee suddenly gave way when going up steps to palm house. Managed to get through day - very grumpy and snappy with boys(they are 14 though) Had to hobble home - kings cross - lots of steps. In total agony and knee feels 'creaky or squeaky" when I touch knee cap- What on earth have I done?!

Oh dear, hope I am wrong but sounds similar to my (years ago) and Madmax's (current) worn cartilage symptoms. Hope it isn't!

Oh dear, you poor thing petal!! I would suggest keep your leg up and apply hot and cold compresses - alternating every ten minutes, and get yourself to the doctor or A&E if you are still in pain tomorrow.

Ditto to what Becki said. I'd just add that if you have it raised, put a small pillow or cushion under your knee so that it's held just slightly bent - that way it isn't fully extended either way.
Would recommend getting it checked out even if the pain goes off quickly - you could do with knowing why it 'collapsed' in the first place Hope it feels a bit better by morning

Doesnt sound too good. Tricky things knees, had a double arthroscopy a good few years ago as have always suffered with dodgy ones myself.
Since stopping jumping out of aeroplanes for a living, I must admit to have found them less painful than before.
Get it checked out sooner rather than later Petal, and 14 year old kids are designed to be grumpy at so I wouldnt worry about that.

Been to docs, she suspects that its old cartilage damage ( I have horses.....)getting progressively worse and has referred me. Gave me some very effective antiinflammatories! Wow they are good!

Can I ask which anti inflammatories please Petal, Madmax could really do with something that beats the pain till he gets his op!
