  • My old pony has died :(

I'm sure you'll agree, he was the cutest thing and a fantastic companion to Henry, who is grieving as much as I am.

He did not winter well and the plan was to give him a nice summer, then make a decision in the Autumn, but it was taken out of my hands, as I found him dead in the stable, on Friday evening, looking like he was sleeping, slumped against the wall. Henry was with him.

I'd love to think it was a peaceful death, but after he was collected on Saturday morning, I saw blood on the wall, too high for it to have come out after he died. Maybe he fell so hard against the wall, maybe something ruptured in his lungs, I will never know. He's left a big hole in my heart, that's for sure.

    RIP Little B. xxx

I took this pic about a month ago. Shows his fluffy head quite well!

My heart goes out to you hon, its devastating to lose a pony. They have a way of sneaking into our hearts unlike any other animal. At least he died at home in comfort with his friend. Big hugs

He looks like an absolute darling, so sorry for your loss. That's the trouble with animals, they take over our hearts and then they break them.

It's very strange at the field, right now. I had him for over 7 years. Longer than most marriages, these days! Only the evening before, I was playing 'pluck the shettie', pulling tufts of moulting fur out. I'm going to miss that therapeutic experience (as will my OH). Bless him, Chris went up to say morning to Henry for me, today. He also helped to load up the body on Saturday morning, despite being a very sensitive sort with that sort of thing. You can't not love someone like that, can you? I have warned him that if I choose to get another companion (rather than try a livery yard), I will be getting something to carry him!

Aww thats sad {{{{{{BIG HUGS}}}}}} to you and your family. The loss of a much loved pet is never and easy one to live with. You say he did not winter well, at least he is at rest now, not in pain or discomfort and in a good place! I am sure he felt the love you gave to him and his life was all the better for being with you!

RIP Little B Jah/God Bless him and all of you!

Oh dear....I'm so sorry for you- It's making me choke at the thought of our horse Fergus dying- and I know he's happily munching his way through the field back in the UK as I type.
They are such a big thing in your life aren't they?- and I feel so sad for your other pony who must be grieving- is he about the same sort of age?????

Don't really know what to say to comfort you- I suppose each day will get a bit easier- maybe it was easier for yo to find him dead than to have to call the vet in the autumn...that's never an easy choice.
                        Big hug from me xxxx

                          Hi Nicos,
Henry is a picture of health at 17yrs. Hopefully still plenty of life left in that one. It's him that is feeling it most, now that I've gotten over the shock a bit. I've even just looked at a for sale ad - another exmoor! How cool to have a matching pair, lol. I have to be sensible and wait a few days while I think some more, though and I don't want to just 'jump in' and buy/adopt the first thing I see (which I probably will, given the way Henry was calling yesterday). Henry needs time to grieve, too.

The one I have left greived for a week or so and now seems quite happy with a bit of human company once or twice a day. He is 17 too but has never been broken in (what a waste)

                              Hi
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. My wife is the one who likes horses in our family- but since getting our pony for the children last year, I have become enthralled - I can only imagine your loss - they have unique personalities. How old was Little B?

                              Think of you
