  • My name is Ananke and I am a seedaholic

I used to see thread titles like this and wonder why people had no self control. Well now I know.

I'd run out of Valerian from H&B again and thought i'd have a wee look for seeds to grow my own as it's quite expensive..... i've just checked out at Nicky's Nursery with 12 packets of seed and a £17.50 bill and i'm not even sure how it happened

Och well, trying to guess what will be in the free packet of seed I got should keep my mind off it

Thank you Ananke, for stepping up and telling us about your addiction. I know it will not help you at this present time but I can assure you that you are not alone - you are amongst friends and fellow addicts. It is something you must learn to live with - it will not affect your health in anyway so indulge yourself
    I do!!!!!

I was in blooms garden centre with my dad and all the seeds were half price.
As I reached out my hand to pick up some seeds I heard my BH's voice in my bead saying “you bought more seeds Aargh!“

I have just gone through all my seeds and given the ones I won't use to a friend who is getting a lottie....

But then the OH disappeared with a wee brown envelope and re-appeared with it full of wild onion seeds. Hey ho!

I have been trawling through my old threads looking for this one for the date. 5 of these seed packets didn't germinate last year so I tried them again this year and still nothing.

Has anyone else had problems with seed from Nicky's Nursery?

I have have a confession to I am an addict at buying seeds. Every time I go to the gardening centre or asda and online, I buy seeds. I cannot just leave without buying something.

Maybe I need help! My fella sometimes has to drag me along(not literary) so I don't buy the whole shop.

Only this year. I bought 12 (yes I know)! packets of chillies, but the 2 yellow types didn't germinate at all. I'm never sure if it's me though, as all the others did (and now I have over 30 plants)

As to seeds .... 1 box of peas & beans, 1 box for home-saved, sets and tubers, 1 bag of freebies / unwanted to give away, 1 box of everything else .... and I'm buying some scorzonera tomorrow .....

Hi I am a member of a local allotment society in the north east area and have found that by paying a pound ayear subs have received some great discounts on seeds and all other gardening feed, equipment etc etc.

They use all kings seeds and are a third of the price of garden centre approx 70p a packet and this year I paid £1 a kilo for all my seed pots, which I bought five different types.

Try asking around your area if there are any society's that you can join as it will say you a small fortune and as well as that the staff who are on the shop are extremely knowledgable and friendly with advice and what grows best where in your garden and also compare what they have grown

                    good luck happy gardening

I've written to them, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt by sowing again and making sure everything was done correctly but the same 5 packets have refused to germinate once again, I think that's a bit excessive. I don't remember seeing a sow by date on those packets, I'm sure I checked already but I'll look again tomorrow.

I have a seed tin that is still fit to bursting. Have given loads of seeds to various people and plants to various people to try to help them out a bit.
Have discovered a new cheap store just opened up called B&M stores. Loads of cheap garden bits and pieces. Just got to wait til OH goes back to work then I am going to have a really good rummage about . You can never have enough seeds, garden bits or garden nick nacks and it will always come in useful one day.
But I do have a very bad confession. Its my moms birthday next week and I bought her a really nice garden clock. When we got home with it little lad dropped the box so I thought I'd better get it out of the box and check it over. It actually looks really nice and I think I have the perfect spot for it in the garden. Little girl has pointed out to me three times already that the clock works and shouldn't I put it back in the box.
Instead of a clock do you think she might like a packet of seeds?

No I didn't think so either.

I love B&M's for gardening stuff.

                              Eat your seeds!
I grow poppy seeds for bread making, trying for home-grown coriander seeds this year.
I save pumpkin seeds, toss in a little oil and salt, and roast until toasty for a delish snack - great with gardening programmes on the telly!
