  • my birthday present...

Aranthos (elder son) has ordered me one of these for my birthday Power Plant Growing Machine - buy at Firebox.com

Anyone seen one or tried one?

I think it might be pretty good for starting my toms and peppers
    Happy Gardening,
    Shirley

I love the way the article is written. Nice to see companies with a sense of humour making a comeback!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

Firebox ads are usually quite amusing. Some of the reviews for things make me chuckle too!

It doesn't look very big but Aranthos is a geek and as such has found a prezzie which combines my gardening with his teccie interest

Looks like a variant on the Aerogrow, which is great, but pricey, This one looks a lot better value, if only because you re-use the sponge and don't need to buy their pre-sown ones. If it is like Aerogrow, it would be tricky to remove part-grown plants for transplanting. I'd love one for herbs on the windowsill! (gave away the aerogrow I bought because we are away so much.....)
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

It looks a bit like a shredder.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Said present arrived yesterday (some mix up with the ordering by Aranthos). It is indeed not very big but if it gets seedlings underway quickly it will be fine. I have adapted it slightly to make it easier (I hope) to remove seedlings for potting on and 'sowed' 5 chilli seeds yesterday morning. The instructions indicate there should be signs of growth after 4-5 days so I will update and let you all know how it goes.

Update time, the Bolivian Rainbow chiliies (thanks zazen) have appeared. None of the others I sowed are doing anything so I guess my old seeds are kaput (won't be sending any on the pepper swap now)
