  • My autistic grandson reading, his way

Jack is just 6, and is Autistic, but can read as well as kids much older. He gets 3 library books eash week and reads in the morning.
This moring, after his first game of snooker, he picked a book he has never ead before and started to read it... well, more like, sing it.
Once i realised what he was doing i grabbed me video cam and recorded most of the book.

        Absolutely brilliant!! I love it.

My own son has autism and there are so many similarities when he was that age.

        Loved, loved, loved watching that!!!

Thanks folks. I taught him to speak aged 2 1/2 by teaching him to read and spell the words on flash cards.
It opened up his world. He will read any and everything... road signs, bus notices, you name it he will read it. He can also spell most of the words once he has read them.

He sounds so like my son arpoet. Its as if they have a photographic memory, which is good, but bad for me as my son expects me to remember everything, and i just aint as good as he is :-)

Also well done in teaching him to read.....huge hugs to you both

That's fabulous, arpoet. He reads very fluently for a six year old. Does he have music lessons? If not, maybe he would enjoy some.

He has fantastic rhythm, and can sing on key, but he shows no sign of playing the keyboard. He goes to a special school and i know they let him drum there.

What a remarkable little boy he is. The video is what I call a smiler - it puts a smile on your face no matter what mood you were in when you started watching it.
