  • Met office wind alert. monday 23 may - I am scared....very scared

The met office have forecast 70 mph gusts tomorrow and my blowaways are already breaking up captain.

I do not have the ability to tie them down as they are on a patio.......big plant move this afternoon but most of the tomatoes are too well established to be moved.

It's going to be a rocky ride for a lot of grapes....take what precautions you can

    Loving my allotment!

Thanks for the heads up Newton. Not so bad here at 38mph, but still worth some precautions. I thought it was a bit draughty this morning.

It's blowing like the chuff here this morning.

Can't you strap them to the fence/wall? Two big horizontal ropes/wires should do it. Stand your garden furniture up against them too.

            Good luck!

When I had my blow away I pulled the spare plastic to the inside and held it down with house bricks, then stood my plants on the house bricks. It worked for 3 years...then the heavy snow killed mi blow away this year...R.I.P blow away .

Weather warning in place for most of Scotland for 70-80mph winds, for tomorrow. I've been out and secured as much as I can but my peas are taking a battering (already). Boo, where is summer?

So glad I got my stayput. Last year the wind ripped three of my blowaways up even though they were sandbagged on the bottom shelf. If you can, tape or mastic the struts together, because that's how the wind ripped mine off. All I was left with was the bottom shelves and the sandbags! Good luck.

That's why I gave up with blowaways!! No matter what I did, either the whole thing blew round the garden, or the cover shredded.

Windy here today and tomorrow, up to 47 apparently. That's enough thankyou, everythings already been chucked around the garden a few times.
I feel sorry for anyone with harder winds. My veg has been well battered already.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

It's been very windy here all week but it surpassed itself today. Quite a few of my toms were very badly wind-burned when I brought them in earlier.

There are about 150 plants in my kitchen now, and they'll probably have to stay in for the day tomorrow.
