  • Meet Suzi...

Well, as mentioned in 'I'm back...', I seem to have acquired a new feline. Well, an old one, actually. Not even a functional one. Let me explain...

I drop off towels from my gym to the local CPL lady every couple of months. This time it was Tuesday the 30th December and when I arrived, she said, 'Oh it's strange you should call me, as I was thinking about you.'

She went on to explain that she had a cat that needed someone special (read 'mug'). This poor little cat was brought in by an old lady going into a home, only there was something not quite right. Turns out she's got liver failure (cat, not lady) and although quite perky, is probably not too long for this world. Because of the medication and her age (14), she's pretty much unhomeable.

So, CPL lady asked if I would consider taking her to live out her days in a house, rather than a pen. No pressure, can take her back...

...well naturally 24 hours later I have a flippin' cat, much to Rosco's (current cat) disgust. He's actually doing ok, though and it just shows how far he's come since I got him two years ago. I was concerned that I'd have to keep her in one bedroom, which is still 10x the size of a pen, hence I agreed to take her. However, 24hrs after installing her in the house, she's claimed my bed as her own, stays out of the way of the grumpy git downstairs and all we've had are a couple of hisses here and there. They're separated while I'm at work, but I'm confident that soon they'll be mixing all the time. It's only because Rosco likes to go out that I've separated them today - during the last couple of days I've had him shut in and both had the run of the house.

Hopefully she's got a few months left in her, yet, but her last weigh in at the vet on Fri showed that she'd lost a little more weight.

Anyhoo, here she is. Check out the undignified one, which just goes to show, she is no lady!!

You are a big softie! It is a lovely thing to take in an elderly and very ill cat, I just know the cat will be spoiled for her remaining time. Do all cats drink out of the toilet bowl?

well done you for giving her some luxury in her twilight years, although drinking from the loo is not my idea of luxury

She's the first cat I've ever known to do it, but I've heard of it happening before. That photo was yesterday morning, so 4 days after I got her. I suspect this has gone on for years and she's soooo grateful to get her head back in a loo after two months in a pen!

What I didn't say was that I am mug enough to clear out a back bedroom, set it up with all her stuff and even borrow a dog crate from CPL lady, so I could introduce the cats without bloodshed. Crate is redundant already, so I might take it back to make more room!!

well done you, so many cats are unhomeable because they are old and unhealthy, such a shame, glad to see you felt you could make her remaining time comfortable and loved.

Aw, well done you, not something many folk would do.

I love your bathroom suite btw!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Good for you SlugLobber. Older cats are lovely and should be shown the respect and love they deserve, not just discarded because they're a bit of a nuisance.

We've had my mother-in-law's aged white cat now for 6 months. The cow (MIL) was going to have Tiddles put down because she occasionally misses her litter tray, what a nasty piece of work! Shame, if we'd have known that euthanasia because of toilet accidents was OK we could have had MIL put down when she was in hospital last year (this is a joke, but only just)

Your new cat is very lucky, keep cuddling her and give Rosco an extra big love from me - he's being very brave and tolerant.

Couldn't agree more. She's a very lucky cat.
