  • Massive rant contained within

    I apologise in advance.

I did a removal today, unlike any other day at first. I drove to the office, checked my computer for job times. It was at 11:30am. 5 minutes away from the office. Job was arranged through a local children's charity OK, had a few hours to spare so washed the van. Cleaned out inside. Had a cuppa. Had another cuppa. Changed the toner in the printer and copier. Emptied the bins. Left for the house to collect stuff from.

Turned up at said house. Greeted by a loud woman and a big dog with a massive case of hair loss (the dog that is).

Looked into the house to find..... trashed sofa, trashed cabinets, trashed cooker, trashed washing machine, etc, etc.

OK?? The woman was blunt in saying to me that I shouldn't worry about damaging anything as the 'cansil are gettin' me's sum new stuffs.

I don't damage stuff anyway So loaded on the appliances, cupboards, sofas, etc. Thinking that was it, we shut the doors on the van. She then said there was a bed (or 4 upstairs). Back up we went to get the beds. 4 children's beds and upon entering her room I could smell weed and cannabis which to be honest wasn't surprising. Lifted off mattress to find a selection of needles tucked between mattress and divan base.

Shouted up woman, to remove them. She come up and flung them to one side as if it was no big deal. Split divan in half and found another 6 under the bed which she casually kicked to one side. Took bed downstairs where another 3 or 4 dropped out.

I stopped on the bottom of the stairs and opened the draw. There were 3 boxes of hypodermic needles, all out of packets. Some looked new others used.

Blah, blah, blah.... Stuff off loaded in the end into one of the councils fine establishments.

HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS GET TO KEEP CHILDREN AND SPONGE OFF SOCIETY!!!!!!!!????????!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!?!

I am furious, still now. But am confused at why it was arranged by a children's charity. The mother is still with the children.

On the plus side lol, she did over pay (almost double) as the council were paying

    Back to my question....... WHY!!!?!?!?

P'haps the childrens charity don't speak to the social workers? P'haps they are unaware of the drugs issue , some people are very good at hiding things and if the children don't seem neglected they may not be aware of how bad the situation is. It sounds horrendous ......

It would have only needed one of us to slide our hand under the mattress to flip it over and we could have had one stuck in us.

Speaking with a h&s company to see if there is anything they can offer for sharps protection.

Not the first one like it. Another we did was a normal fine council establishment whereby needles were stuck up and down the handrails on the flat stairs and around light switches to catch anyone who went near

It really makes me angry about people in general.

Eldest has to deal with things like that very frequently, where she used to work there were some flats that they never used the handrails and used a pen to flip on light switches.

I don't understand it. I don't have a problem with people taking drugs. I don't have a problem with politicians using BDSM dungeons. When it involves and harms other people though - that is when I have issues and have to ask the question WHY!!?

The sad thing is,while there's cases like this for social workers to deal with there's also vindictive folk that have a problem with a mum allowing her kids to sleep in bed with her when they're scared and has a glass, sometimes two,of wine of an evening.

Matt, have you reported this to anyone? The issue of the needles concerns me greatly...scary stuff.
Perhaps you could be supplied with extra thick gloves and some sharps bins in case it happens again?

Not good mate! I would imagine you could get Kevlar gloves made out of the same stuff as police stab vests?

I used to work for our council and at weekends on "overtime" I used to go with the lads who clear the house/flats out when the tenant has left/evicted, I found that what you described is the norm in many cases, in the few months I work my weekends off doing this (saving up for a new car at the time) 25% sharps laying around or other drug related paraphernalia, I used to ask all the time why the council don't have a bond and reference system in place just like any other letting agency, at least they'd get some of there money back...

The fact that it was organised by a children's charity would perhaps suggest that there's an awareness that the mum is in a state and the kids are vulnerable? Were you moving her from an area of drug dens to somewhere a bit nicer where they may escape the influence of dealers? Appalling as it is, people like this family need help, not condemnation.
