  • Malicious or what?

Bought two books off a seller on ebay. Now when I sell books I always offer a combined postage discount. Contacted the seller asking to combine the postage.
Received invoice for both books and full postages to be sent as one lot.

Right says I...................I could have sent all the books in Encyclopedia Britannica for the total postage asked for!

Split his 'combined' postage invoice back into the original two requests and paid them seperately.

That way he will be lumbered with two Paypal payments which will be more than a single payment!

I've just bought about 9 maps from one seller. He didn't offer combined shipping, but he didn't say he wouldn't do it either. I asked nicely if he could possibly combine shipping and he's said no. My reply to that is to ask that all maps are sent separately as he is charging for separate postage. If they don't arrive individually I will report him to eBay. Someone on the community boards once advised me that if postage is charged individually, then items should be sent as such by eBay rules.

Imagine the pickle the seller would be in if he sent them in a combined package and they went missing. That would be nine 'item not received' pending against him, nine charge backs through PayPal etc etc.

While I do agree that sellers who refuse to combine postage are a PITA, e-bay is heavily prejudiced against sellers, and it's hardly surprising if some of them get a bit bolshy about it.

I bought 2 rolls of hot spot tape from the same seller the other week and asked them to confirm the postage cost and they didn't reduce it but I paid it because it wasn't too excessive. However, when the package arrived I only had 1 roll of tape. After a bit of discussion about me checking the envelope again incase I had miscounted!! they sent me another one so they had to pay double the postage anyway What goes around comes around right enough

Some sellers package all their items up ready for posting as soon as they've listed them. That is probably why they are reluctant to unwrap and repackage.

The sellers that annoy me, are the ones that demand 'instant payment' on 'Buy-it-Now' items, so you have to process every item individually, even if you want more than one item.

The ones that really annoy me, are those that think they can get away with charging 3 or 4 quid post and packing, then use recycled packaging and only spend a quid on postage. Personally, I always use recycled packaging, but I don't overcharge on postage.

I pack my items [as I sell in batches] before I list, but I'd still tape 2 envelopes together on a multiple sale.

BINs [and auctions actually] - if I wanted more than 1 I'd send a message separately and ask them to put a sale on for all the things I wanted at a price I was willing to pay [take off the multiple postages myself]. They usually go for it as they want the sale.
