  • Mac/Mail Help

I've tried to sort this out but at a loss.

We haven't been able to receive email for four days. On the Connection Dr thing, the message is that we're no longer connected to the POP server.

I've tried to follow the 'guidance' but getting absolutely nowhere. Should we delete the accounts and start again? We haven't changed anything/done anything, and have never done anything with computer other than turn it on and off (the extent of my expertise).

I have no base knowledge with computers, so assume nothing if you are kind enough to reply, and no big words. Imagine you're explaining it to a toddler.

zaz is your gal for all things Mac.

On the upside, Macs are easier to fix this kind of thing than PC's - apparently.

    Good luck.

ps, I haven't sent anything in the last 4 days.

I'll sit quietly and wait for Zazen.

*tuts* I haven't got anything to look forward to then?

I think from memory that Sarz is also something of a Mac guru??

I have also been something of a mac guru in the past, but I'm better now.

Sorry, was having problems myself......I just went to - system preferences - update software and updated mine and the issue seems to have resolved itself....try that.
What I usually do is to cut and paste the actual error message [word for word] into google to see other's current problems in case it is a system error before fiddling myself...

Thanks zaz. Wish I read that before deleting our email account and losing all saved stuff. Is there a wider thing going on then? We have just had our main bank account compromised for the first time - lots of money missing. All reported etc. but wondered if it was a coincidence. Paranoid, moi?

I have no idea; doesn't seem to be widely reported but the update resolved my issues; unusual for Macs....the only thing I can think of is someone maybe accessed your emails and bank accounts and changed passwords? Was there any activity on your t'internet banking whilst you were offline?

Yes - a lot of money has been 'Paypal'ed' out of our account. That's all being investigated by Fraud now, but still can't get email going.

It's driving me up the wall. Given up on old email address and trying to set up new mac email account. Swings between failure to connect with server, and when it does, I get repeated messages asking for password, which is rejected every time despite being correct.

Do I need to upgrade d'you think? We have Mac OS X 10.4.11. Checked for software upgrades.

Any further thoughts gratefully received. Might just stop me flinging the thing through the window.

Have you googled the exact error message that comes up and see what t'internet is saying.....google 'error message exact wording mac 10.4.11' and see what comes up.
