Default Lost my cat

My little black and white cat, she's 5 but has siameses blood, so is very small, didn't come in for her food last night or this morning. After school tonight Vicky and I went walking around the estate and heard her meowing in a garage across the road. We were writing a note for the people when they came home. As he opened the garage door, we could hear her meowing still, and it sounded as if she was in the corner behind some boxes. He pulled out a load of stuff, but she was silent, and we couldn't see her. She didn't even come out when we opened a can of food, so he left the garage door open.

We hoped once she was over her fright she'd come home, but there was no sign of her by 8.30 so we went back across. We could hear her meowing again, so we knocked and he came out. This time all the boxes were opened, he checked the soffits around the garage roof, everywhere we could think of, even up the ladder into the 'attic' space. She was silent again, probably terrified by the noise of stuff being moved, and we have still been unable to find out where she is, but wherever, she can't get out. It isn't a cavity wall, thankfully. I've just come back from there now, he said he'd have his shower, then sit in the garden with the door of the garage open, in the hope she will make a noise so he's got some clue where she can be. It's really good of him, it's not exactly warm out there.

I am so worried, it hasn't been that hot today, but she's still been missing for over 24 hours, without food or drink, and it's horrible knowing she's somewhere there, but we can't find her! I don't even know if she's been hurt, and crawled in.

Sorry for this, but I'm sitting up waiting to see if there's any news, and sharing this sort of thing does help when you have sent everyone else to bed, then wish you weren't sitting alone!
Ann

Sorry to hear about you losing your cat - if you can't figure out where she is, but can hear her meowing perhaps could you get the local firebrigade to have a look? They might know where holes or spaces are?

Good luck with your search.

Thanks Manda, if Ian can't locate her by listening for her from the garden that is a good idea.

My sister adopted a cat from the rspca and he went missing for days then strolled in cocky as you like, she had been frantic.
At least you know where she is hiding, and like you say once all the noise has died down hopefully she should come out.

The problem was, she didn't. That is why we think she's stuck, because when me and my daughter were calling her from outside the garage, and the up and over door was open enough for her to come out, she was meowing quite frantically. As it isn't our garage, we had to ask Ian to come out again, then when he opened the door for us to go in, silence again.

I hope you find her soon - are you sure she's in the garage? Is it joined on to another one and maybe shes in there? Our cat is very fond of sneeking into other people garages and you can often hear her from one garage but actually she's next door.

The strangest one was when I'd been out to our van in the dark and hadn't realised that she'd snuck in there. Had the shock of my life the next afternoon when I opened the door again!

Hope she turns up soon - let us know what happens.

Hugs xx

I really don't know what to do now. The people who own the garage have gone to work, and there is no noise from her, despite me calling. If I could hear her, I'd call someone in, but OH says we can't do that if we can't hear anything, and the people did check throughly last night. I sort of see we can't get someone to break into the garage, with no further proof she's there, but I feel sick, I'm sure she's there somewhere, but everyone else is now getting to the stage of 'well we've done everything we can do'. No one will be home until 6 tonight, so that will be 48 hours at least she's been missing! At least it is cloudy and dull, not very warm today, which might help her last longer and give us chance to check again tonight.
Thanks for all your kind words,
Ann

Ann

I hope you manage to find your precious cat. Cat's can be suprisingly resiliant, we've had a few locked in sheds/garages for a few days over the years and they've all recovered. But the worry added to my grey hair!

Have you seen if they're any drains that she might be down?

Call someone in while there's still chance that your cat will be okay, don't leave it too late. Someone who is used to looking for trapped animals might see something you wouldn't think of or even assume a cat could get into. Good luck.

I agree with Manda - call someone in, firemen are prety good at knowing where drains and stuck cats are - don't wait

2 of ours have gone missing for 2-3 days at a time ( locked in garages without food and water) and have been fine afterwards.
I'd pull up a chair near where you heard her- (she's probably been so stressed that she'll be sleeping now). Maybe if you talk to her you'll be able to pinpoint her location better.
Perhaps you could call in at your local fire station and explain the situation and they'll advise you what the best course would be. ( at least they'll be called out when they're quiet too!) Maybe one or two of those hunks might nip over to assess the situation.....

You'd have thought your neighbours would have left you their key for they day

I would definitely call someone in - either the firebrigade or RSPCA or Cat Resscue, or even all three! I couldnt stand by and do nothing if it was my cat though I do understand your reluctance when it isnt your garage. I agree with the suggestion to try next door to where you think you heard her in case the sound was travelling?

Do let us know whats happening - I feel so sorry for you and your cat xxxx

Thats a good point - call someone in. People like the RSPCA have special powers to enter property when an animal is at risk - I'd let them make the call if I were you. I'm sure your neighbour would rather have a small amount of repair work to do (especially as I'm sure you'd offer to help) than have a cat suffer.

Have you checked in the roof space? Some garages are double skinned there for insulation even if the walls aren't...

Sorry to hear your news. I would be beside myself if either of my cats went missing. (They are house cats though). Any news?
If not, I would put posters around your local area and through everyones letter boxes. I would also ring all vets and RSPCA to see if you cat has been handed in - also give them a poster.
Good luck.

Good news Tessa is alive, and able to run away from us, and meow!

I did try phoning the rspca earlier, but because there was no definite sighting of Tessa in the garage, and no noise from her today, they said they couldn't force an entry. Anyway Once Val got home I went round again with my son, and asked if she would let us investigate again, just us, so Tessa wasn't scared by unfamiliar voices. Dan got up into the roof, and looked about, to no avail, but when we went out to Val in the garden, we heard a faint meow.
To cut a long story short, there is a channel that runs the length of both garages, and she was in there. Problem was, as we only had access to one, we couldn't catch her, becasue she was going from front to back in the garage next door, then inot the channel again. I think she got up there using the ladder, and now has found she can't get down. I did say to Val about the fire brigade or the RSPCA again, but her next door neighbour is due home any moment, so she's a bit reluctant. We have put food and water up there, so she can come through and get it, and left her to calm down a bit. Now the access is cleared of boxes etc, Dan might be able to persuade her out anyway. Now I know she is alive, and has access to food and water it isn't so bad. If we can't get her out tonight, I'm phoning tomorrow. I'm still off recuperating from surgery, so I haven't got to worry about work.
Thanks for all the good wishes, and I'll let you know how things go
Ann
