  • London to Brighton - again

Well, having taken part last year I had a number of people say that they'd love to take part this year and be part of my team - I am now a whole 3-strong team! 5 people who said they'd "definitely" do it have all dropped out for various reasons.

Anyway, I am still definitely committed and am going to do everything I can to crack through the £1000 barrier this year (I managed around £600 last year).

You grapes did me proud last year, and I am now starting the whole cap-in-hand routine again, and hoping I can count on the support of you kind and generous folk again.

No matter how small the donation, as said by some people before me - every little helps.

On a recent trip to visit my brother in Brighton I asked LadyWayne if she'd like to see the infamous Ditchling Beacon - so we drove up the hill. I think my mind had blanked out how steep and long it is.

    Ouch.

Anyways, if anyone would like to sponsor me please see my page here: British Heart Foundation - Wayne Coulter's Fundraising Page

    Many many thanks in advance.

Dude, I would join you honestly I would, but its a long way to cycle to get to the starting line.

I used to do loads of sponsored cycle rides when I was a kid, the old man was a fireman and used to arrange them, he took me on my first when I was 10, from memory it was 65 miles, not sure how far London to Brighton is?.

Its probably for this reason that I know have 29" thighs. All the best butt, I'll cheer you on from a far.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

L2B is 57 miles I think - I don't remember the ride being that difficult, apart from a few hills and particularly Ditchling Beacon. Visited my bro and his fella in Brighton at the weekend and thought I'd show LadyWayne what I'd accomplished last year (making it up the hill in one) and I think I may have frightened myself. I'd somehow blanked out how steep/long the hill is.

I'd be tempted to video it if I had a camera.

Still - it'll keep me fit for a few months of the year.

Hoping bean will join me in 12 yrs time (youngest entrants permitted are 14yrs old).

      All support greatly appreciated.

Nope, just donated their bed whilst they stayed at the neighbours.

It's all very "modern" in Brighton.

There are also lots of chaps with fellas in Brighton.

They do live next to a guest house though...

Anyone remotely interested can follow my training progress here (if this link works..): Endomondo | Community based on free GPS tracking of sports

I will hopefully use the same app to track my progress on the actual day too.

I wish - trouble is, by the time I get in (about 6pm), play with, bath and bed Bean it's 7:30. Plus, last night was LadyWayne's FatClub night so I was housebound.

Once the clock goes forward at the weekend I'll have more time in the evening to go out for a bit. I usually try and get out for about an hour at a time (15 miles or so).

Attempted to go out on Sunday morning. Got up and out with Bean for about 8am, got the bike out and removed the flat inner tube that was a result of the previous week's ride. Inserted replacement tube and began pumping. Pumped until almost at full pressure and then BANG!

LadyWayne was in the house and thought a gun had gone off (why I don't know), she rushed to the back door to see both Bean and I stood with stunned looks on our faces.

                    I didn't have a replacement tube.

Apologies to anyone within a 5 mile radius that was likely to hear the bang and subsequently be woken at about 8:30am on a Sunday morn.

New tubes have been purchased this week so I will be out again this weekend.

I'll donate something next Friday, when I'll have something to donate: I'm boracic atm.
I did it myself in 2005 and 6, and must do it again some time. It's 54 miles, and in 2005 I did it on my 54th birthday, which was a nice coincidence (it was also one of the hottest days of that year).
Tour of my back garden mini-orchard.

Your kicking up a tidy pace HW, from 6mph to 11mph in two weeks.

You'll soon have the full lycra, speed goggles and drag resistant boots.

Didn't manage to get out this weekend - hoping to get out at least once this week. Brother-in-law will be with me, so my average speed might drop again...
