  • Lidl peat free compost

Just bought a bag of Lidl peat free compost
Disappointed with the amount of shredded plastic in it
    And large bits of twigs

Just wondering what else is in it

I get some funny looks around bags of compost as I tend to give them a squeeze. It's not 100% foolproof, but I did avoid the lidl stuff this year (and no, I did not get ejected from the store).

Personally, I have found B&Q growbags to be ok this year and the verve mpc has been ok.

I was disappointed with the New Horizon Peat free organic - despite passing the squeeze test, it was very woody and also contained some seeds that germinated (significant quantities thereof).
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

has anyone used the verve growbags from B&Q? I used new horizon last year and did very well out of them, although I know not everyone has had that experience

I Complained to Lidl about the compost when I watered my seedlings
The shreaded plastic would make it's way to the top.
Lidl wanted samples from the soil and they sent a prepaid envelope
I collected the rubbish from the compost and sent it back
A 6x4 envelope stuffed full from 1/4 of a bag of compost

I also asked if it was safe to grow foodstuff in this compost
And the source of the compost.

They never answered any question just "without prejudice"on all correspondence
they asked for a barcode on the bag which I
Kept . two weeks later they asked for another
          Code on the bag

I sent several emails back to them with the information
But the last code number I sent back to them using the same email kept getting
Bounced back. Also sent the same information to the contact us page with all reference numbers
Asking them to forward to appropriate department
          Then I got a letter
From them saying because I didn't reply they now
          Consider the case closed.

The soil would get a green slime on the top.
And I'm still finding bits of blue and pink plastic.

Now using a diffrent compost no sign of any plastic or rubbish or slime
          And the seedlings doing well..
