As she lived in the countryside, she always made sure to get the firewood in before the light failed as she had no electricity.

And all the time her heart was made of ice because she had lost the one person in this world she had loved. All the hardship of living in this world was as nothing for her: she chopped the wood and carried the water - but all the time her heart was what gave her the most pain.

As she trudged back and forth from the wood pile each day, the little woman had no idea she was being watched from the trees at the woods boundry. Back and forth the shiny purple eyes tracked her world weary steps.

She knew she was being watched, but could'nt figure out what it might be.

Possibly the Cyber Police, thoroughly fed-up about how many times they have to read threads making up stories....

...or possibly unknown beings who were watching her as she slept. Many nights she dreamed of her lost beloved, warning her of the Cyber police and the drones - but she never quite understood, in the morning, what it all meant and what she was supposed to do about the warning. She couldn't shut herself off from the world, otherwise, how would she live, how would she survive? No, she had to find another way and she was determined to start by...

'Phew,' the old widow said,'that cuppa tea was just what I needed! I feel so much better- more alive, more hopeful!' Just then, the postman knocked on her rickety wooden door and yelled - 'Package for you Mrs Darby, special delivery!'
Clasping her shawl around her, Mrs Darby stiffly made her way to the door - the postman hardly ever knocked- or even delivered to her door these days and she was filled with trepidation as to what this latest missive should be...

''No, this really is for you'' said the postman (or was he?!) as he handed over the parcel. A little nonplussed, the old dear took the package inside and unwrapped it, to reveal...
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
