  • Let down by Amazon!!!!

I ordered a 6 pound Maul/axe from Amazon.co.uk and was told there was a 5 week wait for delivery. Fair enough says I, the woodpile is covered in snow at the mo and I'll wait.

Its been 13 days now and I've just received this email:-

    Dear Customer,

    Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

We regret to inform you that we have been unable to obtain the following item:

"Silverline 633757 6 Pound Hardwood Log Splitting Maul"

This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it.

We are no longer able to offer this item for sale. Our supplier has informed us that this item has been discontinued and is no longer available.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused.

Surely this can't be legal!!!!!!!!!! I think they b*lls*d up with the sale price which was very cheap and don't want to make a loss on the deal! They haven't even got the decency to use my name and merely say 'Dear customer'
I've bought loads of stuff from Amazon but no flaming more!

Why don't you think that 'the item has been discontinued and is no longer available', as they have said? Loads of reasons that it might not be available any longer for sale.

I think - legally speaking - from my studies of contract law in the very dim and distant past, that a price is put up from the supplier to the customer, then you as the customer offer that price to the seller, then it is up to the supplier to accept your offer, at which point a contract is made.

You made an offer, and the supplier has not accepted it - no contract made or broken.

Sorry that you didn't get your bargain.

Whatever happened to ethical law? I bought the axe off Amazon because after a search they were selling it the cheapest and with free delivery. I paid for it on New Years Eve in case they thought about stinging me for the recent vat rise...............sorry Haze, if thats the way they want to do business they can sod off.
And why the heck have they kept me hanging on for 12 days before deciding they won't fulfill the agreement?

        Arseholes!

Fair enough - vote with your feet.

Personally, I don't buy very much from Amazon, but - for me - if I was let down as you have been that would be outweighed by the fact that buying from Amazon is convenient, the prices are good, and I trust them as a supplier. I'd far rather go there than buy from ebay (for example), personally speaking.

It would be nice if their customer service was better - more personal and their response time better - but that can be said about virtually all large organisations.

Then again, I can be laid back - I'm not the one who has been let down by them!

NOTE TO MODS:- If you want to stick this into the minor rant thread I don't mind.....I've cooled down a bit and emailed Amazons supposed customer care dept and got it off my chest...so I've now got a touch of the Murphy's........ 'I'm not bitter'

I must admit Snadger, it does not sound like the Amazon I have ever used. I do know that loads of companies use Amazon as their selling platform & suppose they have to take the brunt for any orders that cannot be fulfilled. Not much in the way of compensation for you mate. Hope you find the product at a similar price elsewhere.

Hmmm, I know that QVC and similar shopping channels have to have the stock in order to 'sell' it, so they can't take orders for stock they don't have. I suppose in my mind I figured everyone worked like that.

I recently had a similar episode with a mailorder lingerie store, the web showed stock in my size, I placed the order but then received a mail saying it was currently out of stock...how does that work?

Sorry you've had a rough 'un Snadger, never good is it!

I have to vote in the 'Amazon rocks' camp, I buy a vast* amount of stuff from them and have never ever had a bad experience (yet!).

You don't pay any money till the goods are received. Same as any other retailer. Amazon do try to please in my opinion.
