  • LED bulbs - wow!

Having used ordinary 60w candle bulbs for yonks in our rather dim cottage we took the plunge and got some LED ones. Not being electrically-minded I didn't know if you needed any alterations to your sockets and wiring but - hey - we can actually see! Unfortunately I can now also see where I haven't dusted etc but at least I won't fall over anything my OH has dumped on the carpet. Deepjoy!
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

When I changed to Compact Flourescents years ago, I noticed that I didn't need to change the bulbs anything like as frequently (we have 16 bulbs in our lounge and seemed to be changing incandescent bulbs every month). Eight years later and the CF bulbs are just starting to fail. When I bought some LED ones, I noticed they look like they'll last 20 years. I'll be leaving them in my will .

If you've dimmer switches you'll probably need to change them before you fit led bulbs.

If you don't intend to dim certain lights don't waste money on dimmable leds.
