  • Le Creuset disaster - help needed!!!

I've done something really stoopid. I put our lovely lovely LC casseroles/cast irons in the dishwasher and added some cleaning fluid as dishwasher had been rubbish lately.

NIghtmare! The enamel has bleached on the outside and the glaze seems to have been dissolved! The inside is fine but the outside is awful - all powdery.

Have I ruined them (GULP) or can I get them reglazed or something?

I NEVER do this sort of thing as I'm quite thoughtful and careful with things and am so gutted it's our lovely LC stuff! Heeeeellllp!

Do you mean dishwasher tablets or something else, I always wash my Lecruset pans in the dishwasher and have not had a problem

Not the normal tablets - it was some actual cleaning fluid. Clearly strong stuff... God knows what goes into these things!

        hi Rhona

dont panic too quickly, this has happened to me with my very very expensive Jamie Oliver pans! they went back to normal after a couple of normal washesm mine are in a light blue colour, i would be heartbroken to hurt my pans as they are the best i have ever owned!

good luck, hope they on the mend soon

Try phoning LC in the morning.
I know they can re-enamel the inside, so they may be able to sort out the outside.
Not cheap to replace, so may be worth having them repaired if they can do that. Let us know what they say.

SS - thank you for giving me hope! I'll try what you suggest. Fingers crossed!!!

Nicos - thanks - I have emailed LC and a company of vitreous enamelling people (who charge £50 per pan! Yikes!) so hopefully they might help if Su's advice doesn't sort them out.

Stoopid me! What an expensive mistake... mind you, I'm the Queen of Expensive Mistakes at the moment after just being charged £130.00 by BMI for booking an air ticket in my married name when passport still in maiden name...

Rhona, I think you will find you have added dishwasher cleaner to the wash - it does state that nothing else must be in the washer when this is being used. (I use it once a month to keep dishwasher and pipes clean but it must be run on its own as it is caustic soda - acid) If it has stripped your enamel and the pans are ruined , look on ebay. I have seen almost new ones going really cheap.

Dishwashers are funny things aren't they?

Ours was made by alchemists because our Meyer pans that were grey when we bought them, are now silver as a result of being dishwashered.

Hope you get it sorted Rhona - Le Creuset are lovely pans.

My Le Crueset frying pan went rusty, so I binned it.
                      --------

Just remembered: I soaked an Ex's brand-new pan in biological washing powder to shift some burnt on crud. It took all the non-stick coating off
I never owned up, and he took it back to John Lewis for a refund

I do hope your LC's are saveable. However you have now opened a dilemma in my head. Now once again single and about to embark hugely on a cookathon (cos I'm now allowed) I was going to splash out on a set of pans, and LC were the mark.
Have just seen the JO reference and googled them, and they look to be good.
Recommendations from users of either, and points to be wary of as well. (I know about dishwasher fluid now.)
My hob is currently gas, but on this leave I will have my Rayburn installed. Dont know if this makes a difference to pans but all suggestions happily received.
