  • The last laugh

I've had the jibes from my OH, his mates and my mates about my chooks, veggie/fruit growing and winemaking, now suddenly i'm being asked questions!! Seems everyone wants cheaper way of living........ now i have homes for my left over cabbage seedlings and my mum has laid claim to a few tumbling tom plants, i'm always being asked for eggs from the neighbours and of course now the vino is on the go everyone is asking for a taste once its ready. I'm feeling rather proud of myself now.

    Veggie Lover,

I'm in exactly the same basket - for 2 years I've put up with the Arthur Fowler and 'good life' jokes here at work.... now all of a sudden, my work mates sidle up to me and quitely say.... "I'm thinking of growing some veg - got any tips?"

I've started a bit of a green revolution!

My OH still isn't convinced by my efforts of growing me own fruit and veg but i'll prove him wrong (I hope)

Amazing isn't it how people's reactions change when the cost of veg etc goes up in the supermarket. I still get the odd, 'allotments are full of old men' by a few, annoys me, so rude! Talk about stereotyping!

                    Hi Veggielover
Ahh its the good life, a green revolution lol. What with the credit crunch recession everyone is at it! soon the lotties will be higher values than the houses.

Where are you in Kent? I have started a Kent thread.

Bumble i am in Tunbridge Wells, I think i have a lottie just up the road from me ( still waiting for the council to confirm if it is mine or not ) we got it 2 years ago, started to clear it then my hubby broke his ankle and it kinda just overgrew again so we told the council we didn't want it anymore, last year we got the annual rent bill in so we went up to check on the lottie and saw that someone else had been working it, so we didn't pay the bill....... 3 weeks ago we got this years bill!!! i rang the council and it is still in our name, the other person has been working the wrong plot! after all their hard work we don't just wanna kick them off so waiting to see if we can come to an arrangement with them to share.

Ooh what I dilemma, does the other person have another plot (not worked) maybe you could share 2? have half of the prepared and half of the non prepared.

Taking an allotment always seemed like such a big step (and big job) but I fancy it could be fun. I quite like being able to potter in my garden at any time, sometimes in my jammies. But it must be good and social at the lotty too.

I think the chances are we will get the un worked! Thats not really a problem though as it gives me the next few months to prepare for next years growing plans, i have just enough space in the garden for this year. Its the waiting......

I know how you feel about the waiting, i currently rent and have been planting into containers. I've got so many ideas of other stuff i want to grow but cause we maybe buying a house soon i don't know if i should just leave it until then?!

My OH says i shouldn't have to many containers as they will be awkward to move to another house.

I really don't want to wait though- i've been well and truly bitten by the bug

Hurrah for the Green revolution! Had a chat with my farrier about what we're growing this year, only this morning. He's got his first allotment, after getting sick of running out of space at home. I'm in a similar boat, but am waiting to grab a patch on OH's smallholding - it's only a matter of time before his old man will find it too much (he struggles, now) and I'll be in there like a vulture!

Mchanen, there's nowt wrong with container planting! I'm doing most of my veg that way this year and it's so much more successful than last year!

My work colleagues are used to me prattling on, now. I've just started picking lemon balm fresh in the mornings and one colleague is already converted. We use the French Press to make it and sit there all chilled out - yeah man.
