  • Large earthenware storage pot

    Morning

Anyone know where I can buy a huge (knee height) storage jar/pot type thingy?

The idea is this...... kitchen to hot to store vegetables in, so I was thinking of a very large stone/eartenware pot with lid to stand in the shade outside the back door (needs to look rustic'ish) .....cant find a supplier of pots though.

Any other ideas on the theme would really help please.

    Thank you

HF stick a piccy of what you are looking for on here and I will be able to get something when I get home to France. They are called charnieres at home and they are for sale in all the brocantes etc. Then when I pop across to see kids in England I can drop it off somewhere convenient.

I bought one of these off ebay a couple of years ago Ceramic Fermenting Pot | Pots & Pans | Kitchen | Products which I've used for storing salted beans. Possibly not quite as big as you want though although that depends on how high up your knees are!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Or a pot saucer. The pot will need to be glazed I think, else the damp will get in, or I suppose you could give it a thin coating of PVA glue if it's unglazed.

Thank you for all your help and your very, very kind offer Bobleponge I have a pot that I bought many moons ago when I had a house in France - the pot is now back with me and kept inside the house as I don't want it taken or harmed by the weather (daft HF - a sentimental value thing) I wondered if they or similar could be bought here in the UK - hence my posting the question.
I think I will try the garden centre route first, that way I might be able to find a frost proof pot and a 'pot saucer' to match for the lid! - great idea thanks

Bob thanks again for your fantastic offer of help, that is so kind of you

ps I loved that old French house - I saved all the 10f coins I could to buy my original pot - it took a while as it was not cheap. but boy is it lovely - one of my life's treasures!

Boble, I tried to find an image of a charniere but got pics of hinges. Is the french word for a hinge similar?

Nope its definitely not a gardener, but I do know that charnieres are hinges. Must be a different spelling cos I'm sure its the same or very similar sounding word.
I will speak to Mme P next time I get the chance, for the correct spelling. I never professed to be able to speak the lingo by the way.
