  • Kohl Rabi - the gift that keeps on giving

    Cooked dinner tonight and thought I'd try some of my Kohl Rabi. I cooked some haddock, with saute'd spuds, asparagus, roasted cherry toms and hollandaise sauce - so I decided to skip the kohl rabi (plus it took ages to cook). So I decided to try a bit that had cooked. One little cube for both LadyWayne and I. the cube was no more than an inch, yet I could still taste it after eating dinner and drinking a glass of red wine (I know, I know red wine with fish - but it was the last of the bottle).

    Oh, and now I've got asparagus wee!

    Did you know, that whilst almost everyone is capable of producing the 'asparagus smelling wee', only 22% of the world's population have the autosomal genes required to smell it!

    Hence why so many people are unaware of the 'asparagus wee' phenomenon!

      We don't cook our kohl rabi, it seldom gets to anyone but DD either, because she lays claim to every one I grow. She and I just like eating it raw. I've never heard of problems or smelled them either (and I DO have the genes to smell it, as I found when OH bought masses of asparagus earlier in the year)
      I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
      Now a little Shrinking Violet.

        It's wonderful grated in a remoulade or mayo if you prefer. Otherwise, cook conservatively - bit of butter, just a spoonful of water, thinly slice the KR and keep shaking the pan (with lid on). I love the stuff!
