Have you read the comments Shirley? Some people even found it funny... and I don't think they're being 'ironic'.

I'm so glad that it has been many years since I last had a KFC.

Co-incidence, as it was down to poor service and less than clean eating facilities rather than animal welfare standards.

I guess there will always be those in the meat food industry who will care little for the lives of those they are about to end for our eating 'pleasure' - but if we are aware, then we can make an informed choice - as we see fit.

I have for some years now bought only chickens which have some indication of life quality standards - not necessarily free range (although preferrred) but some marque of seeing the light of day and not reared in those foul sheds as highlighted by Hugh F-W in his recent campaign.

I know some peeps live on a budget but buying a KFC (bucket of crap - kentucky fried crap) is going to cost way MORE than even cutting up a 'free-er' bird in your own home and supplying a wee bit of salad and accompaniments yourself - if the imagination stretches that far? Quite frankly I'd rather eat less meat and more veg to ensure welfare standards.

If we eat meat - and I do - we must respect how it comes to our table and ensure that both the lives and the ends of those food 'donors' are respected and enjoy the best possible lives and most humane despatches as is our duty to provide.

I think the Kill It, Cook It, Eat It series(x2) done by the BBC should be compulsory viewing for all meat eaters - at any age. It should also bring into question whether we should allow, IN THIS country, anything LESS than these state of the art slaughter procedures on the basis of faith and/or other ethnic requirements - not to mention the welfare treatment of the animals prior to slaughter such as abbattoir handling and transportation times etc. This program also dealt with occasions where the stuns didn't work properly and how a properly experienced slaghterman deals with that event. OK so the tv cameras were running - but at least this is the best we can 'hope' occurs.

As I say which are the animals??? some sick people out there.

This was filmed in the USA. The chickens were being slaughtered for KFC. It horrified me to see how human beings could throw and stamp on these live birds.

Never had a KFC thank goodness

Didn't watch it, but then again I've never had a KFC so don't feel the need.

KFC in the UK use freerange chicken (as approved by HFW) and they are all franchises.

Yes that is how it happens (did a couple of weeks in a slaughterhouse before falling ill).
As for ritual animal slaughter, well I have my opinions on that which I won't bring onto this forum.

Woo now shirley, what are KFC endorsing, the method of killing or the cruelty involved, because I guarantee you they will not be aware of the actions shown in this film. No multinational company would endorse these actions, but they will endeavour to stop it happening in the future. The conveyor belt is an unfortunate reality to chicken rearing, to this extent. If you have ever collected point to lay chickens you would find that most are carried around upside down. I don't agree with the actions of their employees and they should be sacked as a result, but I cannot condemn the method of slaughter. If you eat meat then an animal has to die, I don't have a problem with the slaughter of animals, aslong as they are stunned first.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I agree. Now that this has been brought to their attention they acted. My main point is the shocking way the employees acted. The slaughter of any animal will be unpleasant to some. I eat meat but do not expect humans to act in this way.

Those ****ing fast food restaurants make me so mad.
The industrial farming used to "manufacture" chickens is horrific. They are fed so many growth hormones and steroids that their organs cannot grow fast enough to support the quickly growing body and they die from heart failure.
Fast Food Nation, written by the journalist Eric Schlosser, is probably the best, most well researched book on the subject. blech. Fast Foods Kills.
