  • Just Back / Crap Time.

Hello all. Just got back after spending a month in the Republic of Ireland.

Lottie was looking like a jungle but a few days work has got it looking something like again. Have been on lottie again today but what a shock (hint of irony) it's raining AGAIN.

Had a crap time before we went away. Molly one of my Basset Hounds was diagnosed with cancer and had to be put to sleep. She had been vomiting regularly for several weeks and it took all sorts of tests to find out what the problem was. In all other respects she seemed very healthy and so it came as a complete shock, especially in view of her age, she was less than four years old.

I am 46 years old and in the past have broken my arms, wrist, fingers, toes, ribs, neck and spine. Never once did I squeal or cry. But, on hearing the news about Molly I wept like a baby. I do not work and so the dogs are my constant companions. If when I go out they can come with me, then they do. Losing Molly has been a terrible experience.

Looking to the future. Next Tuesday we are going to look at some Basset Hound puppies. At the moment they are about four weeks old and so if all goes to plan, in about four weeks time there should be a new puppy here in Edingley. A name has already been chosen, she will be called Phoebe.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Hey snuffer - it's horrible to lose a pet isn't it - bet you didn't feel like tending the lottie - but needs to be done I guess!? Years ago, and I mean many many years ago, I visited friends with my mum and her friend had 2 bassetts - adorable and very affectionate! One of my friends here has 2 adult hounds and has kept one of the pups she had from a previous litter - they are the most lovely creatures - fingers crossed your get your Phoebe soon - that will lift your spirits!

I'm sorry you've had such a horrid time. I've never had a dog, so I can't pretend that I understand fully what you're going through in losing such a constant companion, but I'm sorry for your loss.

Hope all goes well in finding Phoebe. New adventures to look forward to anyway!

Good luck with little Phoebe. A chap I know just picked up his little Bassett pup last week, he's a little sweetie and they've called him 'Ace'.

Our dogs have very small ears, Aces' ears were amazing, I stoked them for ages.

Snuffer, sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Molly. When our lovely cat Millie died I found it helped to write her a letter about how much she had meant to us.

                    Hello Snuffer,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Like yourself when my staff was put down I cried like a baby. I couldn't go in the room, my wife took her.

I was in the waiting room when a old lady opposite was moaning about her dog and I just burst out crying, she stopped moaning and said "sorry love".

Good luck with the new pup, we had about a five year gap before I got another staff, she is the loyalist dog I've ever known
                    Cheers

                    Danny

Thank you all for your kind words. Bertie, my other Basset Hound has been a great comfort. Pheobe will help to fill a dog shaped hole in our house.
