I know many grapes making it to self suffiencincy in more than a few food groups by growing. just started reading John_Seymour, but I love to hear if any had a read already and would like share the ideas that has worked well or not so welll perhaps just the ideas given there.

I've had his book for as long as I can remember. I found it inspirational. Much of the book is impractical for someone gardening in their back garden or allotment, but it doesn't matter, its the dream

The first few pages I read .. made me to feel not to rush..but do it only when I feel happy to do any task.
but since it tries to cover as much minimum of an acre land to get self sufficiency including milk, goats and chickens etc , making me to go sideways and stuck than reading further.Comment

I've had John Seymour's book since the early 80s and learned most of my gardening from him and Geoff Hamilton. The name rang a bell so I wiki the name and recognised one of the front covers. When my dad decided to cart us off to Scotland so he could do his Good Life thing he had one of his books. Also had a brown covered one all about having a small holding but can't remember who that was by.
Use to drive my mom insane as she wanted to do things the way my Grandad use to do it and he wanted to do it the way John Seymour suggested.sigpicComment

Mark, It is making things flexi than to giving any rigid lines. he made it clear that crop rotations may not be practical many times due to various factors. and he gave practical selfsufficiency example as well sametime..one can choose what it works for them than to bother about everything.Originally posted by Mark Lottie View Post

I have just managed to get a couple of books off Ebay of John Seymour. So that will keep me busy reading for a bit. Might help me get some decent crops next year
