To be fair, I guess, he did give it a go.

You'd have to be very very keen or not have a day job if you had to travel too far to a lottie, I can't rememer how far he said his was - but distance would probably dampen my keeness.

I think his plot served its purpose - he made the TV programmes, wrote his book and now moves on! For him it was a film location and research for his book. He couldn't get a plot near home as the part of London he lives in didn't have any plots - he had to cross a couple of boroughs to get to Enfield.

My allotment commute is 2 to 3 miles (I've figured it out exactly but can't remember now) - which is a bit of a drag sometimes, but since I don't commute for work it's not too bad.

I can imagine that if you were already commuting every day for work anything further than a mile would become a bit of a pain.

My current one and my new one are both 3 miles from home(s) - I'm happy with that distance, anything else and I'd not do it.

I wonder how far the farest lottie is from a Grape? erm, if you see what I mean

Joe's commute was 40 mins each way, by bike. So that's 8 miles each way. I don't blame him.

I think it's fair enough and an accurate reflection of just how hard it can be to maintain a plot as well as everything else in your life. Not that I would ever want to discourage people from having a go but it might make a few people realise that you really do need to be quite dedicated.

My commute is a quick 2 minutes in the shed or a 8 minute walk.

It takes me longer to open the stupid gate lock than it does to get there

Our journey was 7 miles each way, but we've moved into the new house and now its just a five minute walk! Whooo Hooo!

No, I was just trying to point out that Joe's journey was 8 miles by bike, not in a car. It makes a lot of difference to your available time & energy, not to mention how much stuff you can cart back & forth

I think its fair to the others on the waiting list that he has given it up. If he can't give his plot the time it needs (and it was a massive plot - compared to mine at least!), then let someone else have a crack. Good for him.
