  • Jilted John for 2010

To be clear, this really is tongue in cheek and about the music, not the politics.

Wednesday’s ‘bigotgate’ got me chatting with an old friend and we found ourselves bemoaning the fact that, not having had the musical influences of our youth, there is a whole generation unaware of Jilted John’s 1978 hit ‘Gordon is a Moron’. To remedy this and allow this new generation to make cheap musical political insults who should issue a cover version of it (or, as required, David or Nick Clegg is a Moron)?

I am part of said generation that has never heard it (God I'm SO young).

I voted Robbie Williams for no particular reason... not a big fan, but he allegedly has a certain charisma with a cover version. But never heard the song, so who knows?

I dont know the song (I dont think) but for some reason I have an idea of what it should sound like in my head and I think Dizzee Rascal is best placed to do a cheeky rendition!

Talking of being of the original's era, last week I
                    a) assumed a police inspector was a constable because he looked so young
                    b) discovered the conservative candidate for our constituency is twelve years younger than me.

Both these made me feel old, and having just checked, unless Gordon holds on next week then for the first time in my life I'll be younger than the Prime Minister. 1978 suddenly seems so far away...

I was only 2 when this song came out but I remember hearing it on a 'Greatest Punk' album in about 1995 Thought it was hilarious! Especially...

I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chip shop,
When I came out there was Gordon standing at the bus stop,
And guess who was with him, yeah Julie, and they were both laughing at me.

                              Classic!
                              What would Delia do?
