Default I've been bitten!

I've 6 bites from some unknown beastie from Monday evening when I was at the plot till 9pm, they are small bites, but with a raised center and surrounded with a 2 to 3 inch raised and red patch, which seems swollen and hot to the touch! Any ideas what it could be? Mr D wants me to go to the Dr's, but I dont know if they are going to be able to do anything! Help!!

Just rang the Dr's, and explained the situation, and they asked me to come in for 1010am, no hesitation at all! Makes me feel more worried that they wanted me to come in so quickly!

Ah well, at least its an early appointment, as I was planning to be on the plot all day today (day off) as I've loads more sowing and planting that we need to get done!

Red ants?
Do they itch or smart?

Better to get it looked at and sorted sooner rather than later in my experience.

Hope it's nothing.

Itch like mad, and are hot to touch! Dont think it was ants, there was a flying thing that looked like a mosquitto buzzing around, but bigger, but I didnt think I'd been bitten until I got home! They were slightly swollen yesterday, but seem to be getting worse! No fair! I recon I only got bitten cos Mr D wasnt there, usually they leave me alone and go n bite him instead!

Sounds like mozzies to me too. Best get it checked in case you are having an extreme reaction. I get nasty lumps when the darned things chomp me but the generally leave Madmax well alone. Time to invest in some anti-bug spray Mrs D!

We have some bug repellant spray, but Lee had it in his car!! Generally I dont usually need it, its Mr D that they go for, but as their favourite 'dish' wasnt there, I guess they went for what was available, even if it isnt as young or tender! lol!

LOL! In the meantime, to ease the itching, "make a thick paste of cornflour and apple cider vinegar and apply to the itchy, irritated area. As it dries, the paste pulls the poison out of the skin, relieving pain and preventing swelling." This is taken from 1001 practical household uses for vinegar.

Cool! Think I'll try that after going into the Dr's, as going in covered in cornflour and smelling of vinegar may mean that I dont make it to the plot - as they call for the guys in the big white van............. They're coming to take me away! Hahaha! They're coming to take me away! Heheh!

I don't think bugs are particularly fussy - my foot was hardly what you'd consider young and tender.

If you needed further persuasion to get to the doctors....

take an anti histamine to ease the itch and swelling, I'm very allergic to mossies, I get a bump like a hard boiled egg, I have to take steroids.

Yeek, I was in the middle of brunch when I was reading this - what with the human praying mantis there (well, that's what came to mind - yeuch) and the bitten foot, suddenly I'm not so hungry...
Be interested to see what Doc makes of those orrible bites. Summat nasty took a bit out of my ankle on Sunday and it's still itching like crazy, but not swollen though, so I think I'll live

Horse flies/clegs? You'd have felt them bite though!

Horse flies are nasty, and you don't always feel them bite as they secrete an analgesic and anticoagulant. Only been bitten once, on top of the foot, when I looked down I saw it bleeding happily and the little b*gger crawling round, next daqy I couldn't walk and my foot had swelled up like a balloon!

Default Chiggers?

Do you have chiggers in the UK? We have them here in the south. They're so small you can't see'em and they bite under sock cuffs and waists bands.
Try some rubbing alcohol and hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching. Hope you feel better!

Dr saw me at 1010am, says its infected insect bites, but he wasn't sure what type of insect, and as I didnt feel or see it, then I'm still not sure! He has put me on high strength antibiotics and high strength antihistamines (the full course of which lasts 30 days!! AND NO ALCOFROL!!!!! I'm gonna be going insane by the end of the month!!)

One of the other plot holders told me about a new strain of mosquitto in the UK, Tiger Mozzies, larger and stronger with worse bites than standard mozzies, so its possible that this is what bit me!

Needless to sya I've been drenched in insect repellant all day todat at the plot (even if it was cold to spray on!)
