  • It's going to be one of those days.

Rubbish sleep last night as Bean has a stinker of a cold (which seemed to come out of nowhere last night), feeling a little dazed after what seems like a few hours sleep.

Get to work, fire up the computermebob, take my bread downstairs and load up the toaster.

Select an espresso type drink from the machine (I don't usually but these are exceptional circumstances).

Notice that the toaster was emitting an unusual amount of smoke.

Opened the canteen door (onto the warehouse/workshop) and started wafting with a tray.

    Too late.

    Alarm starts.

    Realisation hits.

    "I'm a Fire Marshall!"

    Heart sinks.

Walk (hastily) to get my Fire Marshall jacket and clipboard - and am met by everyone else (thankfully not too many people at 8am) walking in the opposite direction.

Go outside and confess - yes it was me. I burnt toast.

    Jeers ensue.

    Fire brigade are averted (phew).

I decided not to toast my third slice - and just stuck with two slices this morning.

Yeah - a few ladies in the office were concerned that there could be embers or something in the building, so they'd need a thorough searching - the rooms you understand, the rooms.

Thoughts are with you dude - I've been in a similar situation before now. Dying at any time's harsh, but worse when they're young. Good luck dude (if you get my meaning).

Do you know, I think its something about today. I don't know if the planets are in a weird place or its just the crazy weather, but everyones ill, everyone is in a foul mood (2 managers have just had a massive falling out!! and I mean massive!!). Something is fundamentally wrong about today.

Wayne, sorry about your toast, and hope Bean gets better soon.
BM hope the funeral goes as well as it can. Thoughts are with you.

Commiserations Wayne and baby Bean (is that his real name?) Hope you both recover pretty damn quick.

You can feel it your bones can't you when you just know that things are going to go contrary don't you. Yesterday I went to our local shops. The plan is that I ring OH when I'm ready to go home. That's when it all went wrong:
I had left my phone at home so when I realised that it was far too early for the bus I trudged to the post office and tried to ring from the box. 40p it now costs. It may have been my error but I lost my money and could'nt find the button to get it back. I then moved to the next box. 40p in..no dialing tone. Then noticed a bit of card on the floor that read OUT OF ORDER. By now I was funing so decided to report the faults in the post office. The queue was l o n g. Eventually a teller was free so I politely told them of my predicament. He smiled sweetly at me and said "sorry love this is the Post Office not British Telecom.

                      I got the bus home.

I hate to be the pessimist, but don't bad things come in 3s?

I suppose we could count the firemen not turning up as No.3 right?
