Default Its built, now just needs to dry

Being a bit "unconventional" we have an outside fireplace in our garden, complete whith chimney and pot, which we use just like a chimenea or patio heater but its green cos it burns wood.

I took it into my head to build a wood burning pizza (or bread) oven over one of the adjoining log stores as I think it will be fun to have a "make your own pizza theme" for our birthday party in July.

Well all I can say is if you have room, have a go, its a real "little boy" process playing with clay to build it and as its now formed its just a case of waiting for it to dry out before removing the sand mould and giving it a whirl.

All you need is clay, sand and a pair of hands.

Great bit of kit PW. A few years ago The Flums decided to keep their ancient brains in good nick by taking a Certificate in Archaeology. Very interesting but I digest! On one of our field visits we saw a reconstruction of a Roman bread oven and my husband was fired up (sorry awful pun) and wanted to make one at home. I was all for it until I realised it was intended for my veg area, not his flower meadow! I still bake all our bread, but in the conventional oven. Need more land!

Its 15" wide Terry so should fit a pizza in for the biggest appetite. Filing that as it should cook one in around 2-3 minutes another will be ready to scoff before you have finished the first.

Thanks Bex, its just starting to crack as it dries out so I have made some very wet clay ready to infill over the weekend. I hope to remove the sand mould next weekend.

As its going to be used for real on Saturday cooking lots of pizza for friends and family (its Piglette and my birthday), I decided it was time to try it out for real and actually cook a pizza.

Well, the pizza was in and out in 3 minutes and eaten in about the same time, they were ab fab indeed. For bigger piccies see the blog.
