A techie question for those Grapes with an iPad2. I've read you initially connect an iPad2 up to a laptop (yes?) What is the minimum specification for the laptop? Our laptop is geriatric and decrepit Has 512MB RAM Will it survive?

On the 12th (I think it is), iOS 5 is being release so ipads bought after that date will come with version 5 of the iPads operating system on it (iOS).. which supports over the air (i.e. you don't have to plug it in) activation/upgrades.

Never plugged mine in when I first fired it up. I'm sure I didn't.

HW, really? It would be better if I did not need to fire it up and in the process kill off my poor decrepit laptop.

Chris, thanks for the info will pay a visit after the 12th.

I bought the iPad because at the time the netbook we'd bought had gone tats up (it's since been fixed). I'm pretty sure I just plugged it in, charged it up and connected it to the radio network.

I think you still have to plug it into itunes to activate it - but that said the store will do this for you if you buy it from an apple store. That said, I can't remember doing it to mine, but I did have to do it (and remember doing it) to my phones, which run the same OS.

I haven't synch'ed iTunes. MyPad is only 32GB, and my iTunes library would wipe that out in a second. So I don't think I connected up.

Ah, won't be using it for music. I'm not really musical and Mr Frosty has too much of a music collection.
