  • Important news about the GR

    Dear All

My fellow Moderators and I have been in negotiations over the future of the Gardener's Rest. In the Autumn of last year and unsolicited offer was received for the purchase of the freehold. A property developer wanted to demolish the GR and build 16 retirement flats. The article from a local newspaper is below detailing the latest news.

So are the new owners going to leave the building as it is or are building works and extensions going to be built?

Are we going to have a Bar Manager instead of a Bar man?

And can we have inside toilets this time as last year it was freezing and I still have the scars where my bum froze to the seat.

The changes you mention will all depend on the planning department of the council.....I quite like the outside loos though

The new owners welcome suggestions for improvements and modifications to be used in drawing up the specification before going out to tender.
However, the purchase of the GR has left little in the development fund. WE need to raise money or draw on the members to help with the work.

I will help. I can turn my hand to most thing. Not well but I can do it! At least we don't need to worry about the gardens, we are going to win awards for the best pub gardens.

Doing away with the composter loo's might affect the planning permission, it's a good "points earner" on the reusable energy tick list

How about a few wind turbines to help get permission with the 'green' idea.

There is more than enough hot air on here to keep huge ones spinning for ever!

Don't suppose I can have a sauna? Nope thought not.

                              I like this one....
