  • I'm still here

but for some unknown reason I still have massive problems with GYO site on my system - I have tried many different things to sort this, but none have made any difference.

I don't have this problem (on this new system) with any other forum/site that I visit, just GYO - and it wears me out waiting for pages to load, then I get it loaded and type stuff and have to wait eons for the site to 'take it'.

    So there we are...

Are you using firefox? If you are, download and install the add-on AddblockPlus. It'll block most advertisements, then go to the main page of the forum, and click on the little red icon at the top right, click on 'open blockable items', then click on each line of code, it'll highlight all ads individually as you click down through the rows, then just choose 'block'.
        That'll speed it all up.
        I had the same problem.

I'm back to using IE - FF didn't fix it, sadly.

One thing that does 'fix' it a little is to re-boot but sometimes it takes more than one re-boot and I don't have that long to live - so if a techie amongst us knows why the re-boot sometimes helps, please tell - cos I'm lonely out here and I miss the Vine

            you could never offend

I won't give up, but as you can see - I am quieter (not out of choice) than usual, maybe that's a good thing!

Piskie, try going to 'Forum leaders' at the bottom of the main page, and send an email to Dave who you'll see near the top, ask him if he can help you out a bit. (I say email because you'll get a quicker response than if you PM him )

I really hope you get something sorted out hun, we miss you.

It could be a DNS issue, instead of rebooting you might want to try this:
Go to Start > Run > type cmd > press Enter
This should launch a DOS box > at the flashing cursor type in:
ipconfig /flushdns (there is a space after ipconfig) press enter
you should get a message saying "sucessfully flushed the DNS resolver cache"

launch your browser to the grapevine - the first time after the above command maybe slow but subsequent "should" be faster
PS this wont affect your pc in anyway as all the command does is to remove all dns entries that are cached as you may have a bad dns entry

Ahh your running Vista, to run that command means that you need to be an administrator, this may work:
Click on Start > Accesories > right click Command Prompt > select "Run as Administrator"
